Sorry if this is for Fast Threads, but I figured they won't know much about movies/acting.
Honestly I can't seem to place an opinion on him yet, I need to watch more movies (if you could recommend those), I just wanted to see what everybody seriously thinks about him? I can't help but root for him though, seeing how much people seem to enjoy hating his acting.

The finest actor of our generation
never liked him.
Sometimes he's good, sometimes he's terrible.
Depends a bit on the role he's in.
My guess is he knows the roles that are terrible are terrible. He's a guy that doesn't take himself too seriously and just goes along with it all.
I reckon he's pretty awesome.
He's a very good actor and has potential, but seems to act in too many mediocre/horrible movies.
That one scene in Ghost Rider 2 where he was changing was fucking incredible.

National Treasure is a guilty pleasure of mine
Give him a role as a mental patient and instant gold.
Nicholas Cage is the king of losing his shit.

The only good thing I've ever seen him in is National Treasure.
A good actor who generally stars in shit films
These movies:
Adaptation
Bad Lieutenant
Leaving Las Vegas
all prove he's a fantastic actor.

correct.
He generally is a good actor when he wants to be. If he doesn't like a script and he knows the movie is going to suck, you can usually tell by his hair.
Bad Lt. is the exception to this.
I never really hate him in movies. Even in bad ones like The Wicker Man his over the top performance is just so entertaining to watch.
Terrible actor 90% of the time.
What's the worst film he's been in?
He's probably the best bad actor.
Nic Cage owns end of discussion
hes the most enjoyable thing about a bad nic cage movie - and the most memorable thing about a good one. he's one of a kind. probably one of if not the most entertaining actor today.
I fucking love Nic Cage.
if it weren't for him, Knowing would be beyond poor.

What about Raising Arizona?
I thought Kick-Ass was okay...

Lord of War?
I like him.
I think he's a good actor, but he just doesn't have much of any standards when it comes to films.
As long as he gets paid, he doesn't really give a fuck what he's paid to do.
Not to mention, he's got to be one chill motherfucker, seeing as his son is the lead vocalist in the black metal band Eyes of Noctum.
And the band is good, too. Though if you don't like black metal, you may disagree. :v:

he's known for goofy roles, so that's what people hire him for. but when he does genuinely serious stuff, he does pretty damn well
kind of like a demented jim carrey in that regard
Nick Cage is a brilliant actor , but he does have bouts of starring in bad films.
A good actor who generally stars in shit films
And no matter how shitty it is, the movie becomes entertaining just because of him
that's why this guy is fucking incredible.

haven't seen it. Or Birdy.
Face/Off.
He is the nephew of Francis Ford coppola, he used to be Nic coppola but changed his name to avoid any stigma, must be nice to have a face that resembles a foot and still have your uber-famous uncle put you in movies.
