*applause* So conceptual! You must be a fucking peasant to not understand this! Oh those stupid proles! (Yeah. This is either meant to be a joke or one of the most pretentious pieces of shit I've ever seen)
The music is actually suppose to be all sounds that the audience does. The random coughing, chattering , etc.... It was a interesting concept at the time when John Cage came up with it.

im gonna defend john cage here and make sure everyone knows he was a brilliant composer: 4'33" has a huge context and background, just posting a video and going "epic lels m9" really doesnt do anything
4'33" has a huge context and background, just posting a video and going "epic lels m9" really doesnt do anything
It's shit though.
yeah music history is shit john cage what a gay
It's shit though.
are you serious right now 4 33 is an incredibly clever piece
Get your popcorn ready, because this thread is going to become a huge shitstorm, just like all the other 4'33" threads.
yeah music history is shit john cage what a gay
but there is no music
yeah because theres no music obviously theres a huge amount of context that is necessary to understand when you try to figure out the significance of the piece not a very hard concept
but there is no music
you have to look at it from an entirely different perspective, and for a second not feel pretentious for doing it the world would be a much better place if people didn't go "lol what a faggot its just silence" and turn it off after 30 seconds
yeah because theres no music obviously theres a huge amount of context that is necessary to understand when you try to figure out the significance of the piece not a very hard concept
yeah but it isn't music.
yeah but it isn't music.
no noise music is definitely music even if you dont like it
no noise music
I'm getting out of here.
yeah but it isn't music.
What gave you the authority to decide what is and isn't music do you have any claim to authority on the subject at all
I'm getting out of here.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out
yeah but it isn't music.
But there is sheet music of it, it's performed the same way you'd perform a song. There's directions and everything
I'm getting out of here.
I just looked at your soundcloud would you like it if we called it "lol faggot bippity bop shit its not even music its just pressing buttons on a computer" we dont because we appreciate all kinds of music
As far as I remember he even wrote in directions about when they should turn the page throughout the entire history of music there's been incredibly ignorant people who claimed such and such wasn't music - even people who said it about beethoven's first symphony it doesn't matter that there are no notes, it is still a musical piece and the world would be a much better place if people didn't just dismiss anything they didn't like at first glance
*applause* So conceptual! You must be a fucking peasant to not understand this! Oh those stupid proles! (Yeah. This is either meant to be a joke or one of the most pretentious pieces of shit I've ever seen)
Conceptual pieces are hardly pretentious.
yeah but it isn't music.
"Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music
death to beethoven
Why are people applauding it? It's literally nothing, no talent, no performance, not even a single note. Still better than skrillex though.
no talent
I always hate this Who cares how much talent it takes to create or perform music
Why are people applauding it? It's literally nothing, no talent, no performance, not even a single note. Still better than skrillex though.
argh this is stupid to even argue about
Why are people applauding it? It's literally nothing, no talent, no performance, not even a single note. Still better than skrillex though.
theyre polite [editline]2nd June 2013[/editline] epic skrillex zing doe
"Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music
So by sitting here in silence I'm actually performing music. Good to know.
So by sitting here in silence I'm actually performing music. Good to know.
As long as you consider what you've done art, it's art. Same goes for music.
As long as you consider what you've done art, it's art. Same goes for music.
I'm gonna be rich.
I'm gonna be rich.
Something being art doesn't mean everyone is immediately going to want it. I can call a pile of dog shit art and that might make it art, doesn't mean anyone's going to want it.
