• New York City Bomb Scare

I went to New York City today to see the new Green Day Musical which I was very skeptical about, but turned out be a good musical. Before we entered the theater we noticed there was heavy police and fire department activity. As soon as my father and I got out of the theater we tried to go to Times Square, as soon as we started moving down the street in that direction we were told the street was closed and we'd have to go the other way. We exited onto a street and noticed a lot of police activity and multiple cruisers. We eventually stopped a block down because we saw that there was no movement towards Time's Square. I called my Mom to see if she could get me any information as to what was going on, she checked on the Internet and turned out that the police had Time's Square blocked off because of a strange package in a SUV that originally was on fire and believed it was an explosive device. My father and I moved to the top of Time's Square on a street that wasn't completely blocked off, it was by the Olive Garden as a reference point as to where we were standing. On the oppisite end the square there was alot of police trucks and firetrucks down near a black SUV as my Mom had informed us. We stood there for a while watching the activity and then more fire department units and police started moving into the area. Soon after horseback police started getting the crowd to move back and we eventually had to move and leave that area. We eventually moved down to the area where the SUV was (The police had by now moved it and simply had most of the streets blocked off) We were able to get as close as the barriers would let us. We were standing by the ESPN Zone but at the edge of the street closest to the heart of Times Square if anyone is familiar with the area. Right next to the NYPD booth for better reference. The police still had a heavy presence in the area and there were ATF, and FBI agents here and there and an entire SWAT team was in the area. The SUV was no longer there but the police still had the place in lock down which is when my father and I left. TL;DR: My father and I went to New York City and there was a bomb scare in Times Square which we were close to. Sorry for the lack of detail I just got back to my Dad's apartment and don't have street names for more accurate positions. EDIT: Just to let you all know from what I've seen and read there was not explosives in the vehicle but some sources state that police found explosives in the car no one has a truly clear story yet. EDIT: Scratch that news sources state that police have found propane tanks and electrical wiring on the interior of the car, a crude bomb.

I've walked down that street. Kinda frightening to see it again like this. Not as much as the old woman in the flag bikini and guitar though... *shivers*
You should of got some pics on your phone, It would of been cool to see the non-Press pics
I have some I might post them later. EDIT: Also Xystus if you think that was bad there was a guy wearing only boxers and had himself tied to a cross in the middle of the large crowd I was in near the Olive Garden.
The most shocking part of this thread is "Green Day musical".
The most shocking part of this thread is "Green Day musical".
Rated funny, I was skeptical about it but my Dad had gotten tickets. It was actually pretty good, the music was okay but it was overall a pretty good show.

Yeah, there is a thread in the news section about it too. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=932429 Pretty cool to hear from someone who was there.
There was a bomb scare in York as well.
The most shocking part of this thread is "Green Day musical".
What's wrong with Green Day? All they do is piss you off about how they think they are awesome.

I've eaten at that olive garden.
It is so scary that someone would do something like this. Think of if it went off. Sure, a car bomb isn't the most powerful explosive in the world, but many, many people would have been injured.
You should have screamed "BOMB!!!" then "lole j/k" and run away.
Apparently the bomb car was next to the South Park headquarters/Viacom building http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/7668606/Times-Square-car-bomb-police-investigate-South-Park-link.html religion of peace
Scary.
They shall not take South Park down!!
I love it how all the flags come out after shit like this happens.
Been hearing about this, nothing blew up?
The car was on fire apparently and that's why so much emergency services were there. From the news articles I've read it had propane tanks and electrical wiring, a crude bomb.
counter-terrorists win. just had to be said.
Contrary to earlier, inaccurate reports, the SUV in question was actually a yellow van.
