[release]WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama has decided not to release death photos of terrorist Osama bin Laden, he said in an interview with CBS's "60 Minutes," amid concerns that the gruesome image could prove inflammatory. Obama's decision was reported on the CBS News Web site Wednesday after the president sat for an interview with the news magazine program. Releasing graphic images of bin Laden's corpse after his shooting in a U.S. raid on his compound could have dispelled doubts that bin Laden is indeed dead. The worry, though, was that it would feed anti-U.S. sentiment. The president made his decision as the Navy SEALS involved in the daring raid in Pakistan arrived in the U.S. for debriefing, and U.S. officials began to comb through the intelligence trove of computer files, flash drives, DVDs and documents that the commandos hauled out of the terrorist's hideaway. Obama prepared to visit New York City on Thursday to lay a wreath at Ground Zero and visit with 9/11 families and first responders.[/release] They will end up being released/leaked eventually.
Call Wikileaks.
I know the picture will find itself on here soon, so this is no big deal.
Why don't we wait for 2 years, while people ask "where is the photo"? I suppose it could be inflammatory, but it really wouldn't do anything to make the radicals in the middle east any angrier than they are because we killed Osama.
And the conspiracy theorists are going to have a field day. Pictures of dead people in the middle east are in the news paper everyday, and they're holding back the creme de la creme of them all?
Why does anybody want or need to see it in the first place?
I doubt after putting everything on alert they want to piss off some nutters more into doing something stupid or maybe they just want to laugh at all the conspiracy theories that are going to be pop up.
Why does anybody want or need to see it in the first place?
Proof?
I really don't care much about the photos, the fact that Osama hasn't made a video saying he's alive is enough for me. Even if they are released the conspiracy nuts will just scream "FAKE".
Why does anybody want or need to see it in the first place?
proof, you'd want to know that the person responsible for almost 3000 people's deaths, is himself dead wouldn't you?
I'm pretty sure they will release it down the line. Right now they are just waiting for things to settle.
Proof?
Then they would just claim it is fake. There is no way to win with those people.
That's a surprise
Why does anybody want or need to see it in the first place?
There's nothing but the word of people who have lied in the past to support the claim that he's dead until actual evidence is released.
And this will just make conspiracy theorists even more suspicious.
There's nothing but the word of people who have lied in the past to support the claim that he's dead until actual evidence is released.
As I said, they would just claim that the evidence is fake.
Proof?
You don't ask for proof when someone asks a question...
As much as the government lies and hides things from the public, I believe them in this. It's too big of an event to lie about. It would have to involve so many people at different levels, including Osama himself to pull it off. I want to see the photo purely out of curiosity, but it's absolutely not a necessary thing to release (especially if it does indeed cause more animosity towards the US).
You don't ask for proof when someone asks a question...
It was an answer said in a suggestive format.
You don't ask for proof when someone asks a question...
He was answering the question and he put a question mark on the end of his statement to create emphasis but also snidely remark that the question had a stupidly obvious answer.
There's nothing but the word of people who have lied in the past to support the claim that he's dead until actual evidence is released.
And if the photos are released, would you accept them as evidence or just call them fake? Releasing them would not change the conspiracy nut's minds and probably just provoke extremists even more. Even if they still had the body and showed it the conspiracy nuts would just say that it's a doppelganger.
I really don't care much about the photos, the fact that Osama hasn't made a video saying he's alive is enough for me.
well, you have too consider how quickly news travels in areas like Afghanistan, last year when that Florida pastor burned Korans, there wasn't an outrage in Afghanistan until a few months ago. but yah, I think he's dead.
Actually in that instance, it was later that day. The burning you are referring to never happened. The pastor backed down. But then earlier this year he decided to do it, and then that provoked an outrage. Also, they have newspapers, I saw a photo of a Pakistani newspaper proclaiming him as dead.

There is no valid reason for them to release a photograph of a person's mangled head. DNA evidence is all that's necessary.
Is it strange or idiotic if I think of Osama's death as if any other human got killed? Because that's how I see it, I don't know why, I don't oppose the killing of Osama, but I just see it as people killing people. And I don't see myself being ignorant either, nope. Also about the photo, I don't think it's necessary. We know how he looked, and I'm pretty sure when the U.S. forces made their approach they had double checked that it's Osama hiding in the building. So, a DNA test would suffice.

I dont understand WHY they wont release a photo. I want to know for 100% that he is dead.
