It starts off kinda scattered in my opinion but by the end I agreed with all his points and I think the audience did too. Surprisingly uncondescending for his content and it was pretty interesting argument.

wow, millenials are too lazy to even exist? must be all that weed they're smoking these days
I've watched this earlier, it's a great presentation. TLDR generations don't exist, old people are bitter.
What a relief

i would say the only generation that really existed were the baby boomers as they had a shitton of people born around very similar times due to all the GIs coming home after WW2

Generations were meant to just mark a certain period of time where people were born.

Actually upon watching the beginning, and the rest of the interview with Neil Howe and William Strauss, their statements were taken COMPLETELY out of the context.

Wanna cut it short and explain how it is? I don't really want to watch a 50 minute video.

Basically; Millennials are being coddled by their Boomer parents are being overprotective to avoid damage. If the cycle theory holds true, Millenials will be much closer to the GI generation(the ones who fought during World War 2 and did a lot of the scientific stuff like NASA). GI's as explained are incredibly hard workers who wanted to only help society. They never insulted any of the generations and instead explained how each generation follows a 4 cycle pattern of generalized attitudes. This is back in 1991, the Millennial generation was just starting to grow into 8 year old children.
The only group they really talk any sort of shit about is the Boomer generation, which they're both apart of.

Basically, and unsurprisingly, Adam resorted to clickbait because generational studies are incredibly nuanced.
Yeah, I thought the four generation theory had some solid ideas behind it. Still, we've not got a huge sample size of generations to pull data from so who knows what the legacy of ours will be.
I think you can still define some traits of generational individuals - but only on a very general level that hardly matters to most people anyways
There's bound to be some generational trends, but that's not up to the generation itself, and previous generations will also follow most of those trends, like buying a smartphone. Looking at the people from a certain time period and disregarding the current factors that contribute to behavior is ignorant.

The point of the book was to examine American history through the lens of Generational cycles.
It's interesting to say the least.

Both writers acknowledge that these generalizations don't hold to everybody and that there are many different kinds of people, they were looking to see if certain qualities rotated.

Great presentation, the audience was pretty stale which was pretty surprising. I thought a lot of his jokes hit the nail on the head.

I forgot I had this extension installed and saw this thread about ten times before realizing it wasn't actually about Snake People.
thank god for a public speaker that doesn't spell out every joke he puts in a slide after the audience has already had the time to read it

Well it wasn't a comedy show, I think a lot of them were just trying to take it as seriously as possible, only cracking up slightly at some of the stronger jokes.
I'm willing to bet this is going to do no good. Marketing is still going to be pandering to the stereotypes. Very interesting presentation though.

speaking of millennials, does anyone have that image from the middle ages/renaissance or somepoint near that time talking about 'kids today and kids yesterday' showing off cards and dice and whatnot?
