not really that much of an effect compared to something smaller
Future here we come
not really that much of an effect compared to something smaller
look at the dude's other videos, it's pretty interesting. I wonder how often he has to recharge that battery pack.
Hey look it's a Fallout weapon prototype
I don't think stacking lasers directly adds up to wattage
I don't think stacking lasers directly adds up to wattage
It doesn't unless you properly align them to one focus point. Problem is that in a situation like this that focus point is variable so if you're in the right (wrong?) spot it doesn't really do anything. You need a proper focusing element within the gun to make the beam uniform before it leaves. I hope you know how to grind lenses.
3mil views in just one day, holy shit
Why are the beams visible?
Why are the beams visible?
One could deduce that the light emitted by the lasers contains waves within the visible light spectrum.
One could deduce that the light emitted by the lasers contains waves within the visible light spectrum.
Well to be picked up by camera/eye those need to be reflected off something, and air does not reflect that much light
Future here we come
War is going to be eerily quiet in the future. [editline]9th June 2015[/editline] This kid has the American spirit
Well to be picked up by camera/eye those need to be reflected off something, and air does not reflect that much light
When a laser is strong enough, even air reflects it very visibly.
When a laser is strong enough, even air reflects it very visibly.
I googled and turns out it's due to Rayleigh scattering well, at least my childhood dreams of having a visible laser beam thingy aren't impossible after all :v:
I don't think stacking lasers directly adds up to wattage
Actually it straight up does. Whether or not they all hit the same point is irrelevant, the output power is increased. Damn. They are a lot of fun.

Nope, illegal to sell in Russia I could order one from abroad but fuck paying 2x more for shipping
Well to be picked up by camera/eye those need to be reflected off something, and air does not reflect that much light
My dad has been able to see laser beams from standard pens for as long as he can remember, I have a <1mw 532nm green laser pointer and for him he can see the beam as a pencil thick line of green surrounded by a couple of centimetres of greenish fog. So I took a photo of the laser in action and showed it to him and he told me "Wow, lasers look nothing like that to me."
Wait, if some wavelengths scatter off air does that mean that some power is lost?
Wait, if some wavelengths scatter off air does that mean that some power is lost?
Yes, the energy is in the beams and if a beam does not go to the point of aim but instead to your eye, it will transmit the energy to your eye instead. Not a lost is lost usually though.
Yep, that's a powerful looking laser weapon, even if it's probably only useful as a heavy-duty dazzler. Still, I can't imagine the burns you could get from something like that on bare skin, especially if it gets on your body hair, though a split-second of exposure would probably just sting like a hot bowl of soup. Twisted as it may sound, I'd be interested to see its effects on a piece of raw meat, like a fresh steak.
It'd just be similar to the effects of heat.
Yeah I know, I'm not expecting 40 watts alone to vaporise things, but it'd probably at least sear the flesh, wouldn't it?
Yeah I know, I'm not expecting 40 watts alone to vaporise things, but it'd probably at least sear the flesh, wouldn't it?
Don't worry, you're not the only curious person around: Coincidentally, this was shot using a 40 watt laser, though a much better one since it's one focused beam and not many separate beams. (it's a CO2 laser in the infrared spectrum)
Yep, you would definitely not want that beam on your skin. And that's just what can be done with 40 watts from one source. I kinda wonder what'd happen if you strapped 5 of those together with a good lens, like it'd be a beam of roughly 200 watts worth of directed laser light. I've always had a fascination with directed energy devices, like what happens if you fire the beam through an electrical arc or a naked flame.

Why have multiple? You can get lasers up in the kilowatt range!
God he sounds like steve burnside argh
I was expecting something bigger with capacitors. Literally just shooting one short but powerful laser beam. This isn't as much laser shotgun than it is a powerful laser pointer strapped to a gun. Cool nonetheless.
He's kinda hot.
Hot stuff comin' through. With a big fuckoff laser pointer.
