This is Bear McCreary:

He can fuck your shit up with music. That's how good he is. Anyone who has seen the new Battlestar Galactica will know how much of an emphasis it has on its original score.
I'll start with the most well known piece that the new BSG spawned, BT4's rendition of All Along the Watchtower:

Youtube can't even handle the bass track, that's how fucking awesome the track is. He can fuck Youtube's shit up. This track was featured in the final episode of Season 3, and it wasn't just some plug, it actually plays a part in the plot, and the song continues to pop up throughout the following episodes.
This is another more well-known track from his work on Battlestar, Prelude to War:

I, myself, remember buying a TiVo just so I could record the episode this was in just so I could go back and listen to the score again. It's fucking good. You'll notice by comparing these two tracks that his style varies between the classic orchestra theatrics to a high emphasis on tribal drum beats and the lesser used "foreign" instruments you rarely hear in modern music these days. And if you aren't some dumb speed-metal fan you'll realize this isn't nerd shit like most people would think would be featured in Battlestar Mother-Fucking Galactica. No, fuck that shit. This is real music. No fucking beeps and bloops and futuristic shit. This is how theatrical music is meant to sound.
Another one of his more celebrated pieces, "Gina Escapes", was featured in the end of another pivotal episode (See a pattern here?) in which Baltar (who is also awesome) gives a Cylon chick a gun, who then goes and shoots the Admiral point-blank:

Now, you may be thinking that all his music focuses on drum beats, mandolins and chaos. You're wrong and you should be ashamed.
McCreary composes a wide range of pieces to fit certain characters and factions. For instance, the Colonials typically have very rustic, tribal themes, whereas the Cylons have Battlestar Sonatica:

Yeah, that's right, that's a piano. If your mind isn't blown then I don't know what to do with you.
More pieces:
"Roslin and Adama" is, of course, scored around those two characters, and the melody will usually appear when both characters are in a room together at some point. Initially it focuses primarily on the standard orchestra style, but later moves toward a more acoustic, almost "cowboy" vibe.

Think you understand his basic archetypes? Wrong. As somewhat of a reference to the show's roots, he often includes riffs that are reminiscent to 80's rock. That's right. Dude can do 80's too. If you say your mind isn't blown by now then you are a liar.
"Pegasus"

"Something Dark is Coming" is very similar to Pegasus, only its tone is much darker.

He's also working on Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles and Eureka.
Buy his shit.
If you say your mind isn't blown by now then you are a liar.
Well then apparently I'm a liar.
Well then apparently I'm a liar.
So basically you're saying your mind was blown.
As to be expected.
Bumping this shit up, definitely deserves more attention. BSG was an awesome show with an awesome soundtrack.
I absolutely love the BSG soundtrack, fantastic stuff.
I listened to it nonstop for some 2 days once.
Goddamn so much awesome in there.
I really love Allegro and Passacaglia.

Bear McCreary is a genius. I love his work. Particularly the Adama family theme and his version of All Along The Watchtower.
Plus BSG is a fucking amazing show and anyone who hasn't seen it must do so now
Stop saying "Shit" and "Fuck" so much, It makes you look stupid.

no
The music fit perfectly with the show. Alot of the plot revolved around music such as the unknown 4 cylon hearing music.
This was one of the best shows on TV, and it really wouldn't have been the same without the excellent use of music. This show's rendition of "all along the watchtower" still gets me all pumped up. Battlestar Galactica's the best example I can think of as to how heavily music can influence the viewer's emotions. McCreary's work plucked all the right strings.
