Made for you, MUS.
The crate implies that we have actually gotten something. We've literally had nothing this year
I was expecting an *Updated localization files* joke

They don't even update the Localization Files anymore that's how bad it's been
tonight would also be a good night for a blog post

Current tf2 mindset.
-Fixed super rare server crash that we're not going to go into any more detail about.

I read MUS regularly and your unbroken optimism kind of depresses me. I don't know how to describe it
scary to realize that tf2 is nearly a decade old.
you missed the occasional bashing of csgo and dota 2
you missed the occasional bashing of csgo and dota 2
Problem is even csgo is pretty much dead in terms of updates as well
dota 2 seens to be doing fine though, as usual
Tbh TF2 has been steadily dying since around the Mannconomy update, i'm surprised it hasn't just keeled over completely by now.

It dying and getting less players from lack of updates is easily a possibility, but the game dying completely? That's not gonna happen.
I think it's dumb to keep expecting TF2 updates, letalone good ones. Barely anyone wants to work on TF2 anymore and that's because it's old and has run its course. I have over 4k hours in TF2 and I can't see myself playing the game regularly ever again unless it gets a serious overhaul. The game just feels so unpolished and reeks of "Valve's guinea pig" which we all know is obviously true.
If it gets the Dota 2 Reborn treatment, I'd be very happy for it.

It's not though. I just hope Valve updates it to Source 2.

Wat. CSGO just got the Bloodhound update
Wat. CSGO just got the Bloodhound update
Which is pretty much equivalent to TF2's hats

You clearly don't follow CSGO actively enough to know it's been getting constant content updates that follow in suit with major tournaments, also we've had more maps pushed through CSGO in the last year than what TF2 has got in its entire lifetime. CSGO is very much alive in terms of updates.
It dying and getting less players from lack of updates is easily a possibility, but the game dying completely? That's not gonna happen.
I mean it'll have die-hard players sure but i expect in a few years time that it won't be a relevant game anymore like some of Valve's other games.
Which is pretty much equivalent to TF2's hats
Yes because adding in whole new maps for competitive testing, weapon balancing and a new XP system to help push players towards the other gamemodes and get them the understanding of core gameplay before jumping into competitive is the equivalent of TF2 hats, sure don't look past the cases and weapon skins.
Which is pretty much equivalent to TF2's hats
No? An entire pack of maps and missions, that can also gaurantee you drops from the latest crate/box, is not an equivalent to TF2 hats.

and that's really a shame because TF2 on launch and up to the engineer update really was something special and unique

This is definitely true, at first i was dubious about them adding items because for the most part, the base game was solid and fun and i definitely miss it but i actually ended up genuinely enjoying the wave of Class updates and actually having to do the achievements for the items, it really gave me incentive to do them. And frankly, let's face it, even though they were like Idling servers and kind of lame, Achievement Farming servers ended up being super fun. But now all that magic is lost under the sheer weight of unbalanced items, random drops that end up being mostly crates or things you have, and a really poor, resource heavy crafting system. In the end, a game that set the standard for class-based shooters ends up being a poor example of one now.

It's going to die out, but will retain a community most likely.
It's still rocking 72,000 players during today's peak, but it also helps that it's now Free-to-Play.
Basically, what happened to L4D and L4D2 is going to happen to TF2, just on a much, much longer time and still retaining more players by the time it flatlines.
tbh all the hat craze, community-shoveled additions, and thematic rape is what did it in for me. The first few updates, and even hats, were really good. Now it's a bloated, overloaded clusterfuck that takes probably twice the hardware umph it did on launch (thanks to all those lacking LoD models on many on freshly added hats, weapons, cosmetics; dunno if they fixed that) and is hard to keep a good grip on because the classic A-beats-B-beats-C lineup got childishly scribbled all over. I remember loving Spy on launch, but now half the classes (including his primary targets) have anti-spy weapons. Just what.
I have no idea why they're letting it die, it is in desperate need of an optimization pass, and new content, this is probably the least updated F2P game ever.

i think it's a little bit justified when valve or people meeting with/connected with valve try to hype everyone up with promises for new updates or new content. an easy example is the bi-monthly comic that hasn't been updated in a year.

The comic isn't affiliated with updates. What have they promised update-wise?

Some well-known competitive players visited Valve and confirmed they're working on a competitive matchmaking system that should be done "soon".

I would imagine that's coming with the Source 2 port. Would be the best time to introduce it.
