Well my friend repeatedly insists on sending me random pieces of Ambient music, and some are okay, but others are just pretty bad. But I think ambient sounds good mostly.
Does anyone know of a good ambient band? I'd greatly 'preciate it.
Thanks.
I made a thread asking the same thing a while ago. Have a look through it.

Brain Eno practically invented it. Go check him out.
Aphex Twin
-Selected Ambient Works Volume 1- more beat oriented chillout music
-Selected Ambient Works Volume 2-more avant-garde abstract (My personal favorite!)
Brian Eno
-Ambient 1: Music for Airports-the first and best
-Ambient 2, 3, 4-Also pretty awesome
Diatonis-You can get a lot for free online
-Aphex Twin-like abstract
Nurse With Wound
-Soliloquy for Lilith-dark and doomy ambient, it's actually really cool how it was made. Read up on it. The album itself usually is pretty expensive, so know what you like before you buy it.
Biosphere
Fennesz
-Mixture of ambient and trip-hop/IDM
Boards of Canada
-Geogaddi or Music Has the Right to Children-Mixture of ambient and IDM/synth-pop
Phill Niblock-one of the founding fathers of drone music.
-Touch-works for the Hurdy-Gurdy-amazing drone chillout music. Use of vocals and hurdy gurdy are incredible, definitely give this a listen if you like drone.
Lustmord
-Heresy-one of the darkest drone ambient albums to date
Stars of the Lid
-Avec Laudanum-Beautiful and slow/abstract ambient drone
There are many more, you just have to look for them. Find something you like on iTunes, and look for the suggestions or "people who liked this also like:" box. You'll find a shitload. This is my favorite type of music, but good ambient is hard to find. I've been looking for years and only a few things have stricken my fancy, but they constantly remain favorites!

What he said
everything by Bass Communion
Check out Tracks by The Opus if you want a real experience in sound. Mainly First encounter album.
And check out Argyle Socks http://www.myspace.com/variouscool This guy can produce amazing tracks, and you'd be very surprised if you knew how he made his music.
Stars of the Lid http://www.myspace.com/starsofthelid Check the track "A meaningful moment through a meaningless process".
I recommend the last 2 if you're looking for ambient music that DOESN'T have a rhythm to it(Or beat?) not sure what word to use.

I got a promotional copy of his latest album, and got to say it's ambient and good
everything by Bass Communion
I'll second that, it's one of Steven Wilson's side projects, that fact alone should be enough to make you go and listen, seeing as everything he touches turns to gold.
Well if you have iTunes go to the radio section then ambient and look for the one called "Relax And Smooth"

Zoetrope is actually probably one of his best. And if you want a general idea of what he sounds like, pick up The Dark Places Of The Earth. It's like a recap of all of his work to date.
Za Frûmi
Burzum's Daudi Baldrs or Hlidskjalf, both are good ambient albums.

I agree with a lot of the listed artists such as Aphex Twin, Brian Eno, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Ulrich Schnauss, Global Communication, The Orb, Stars of the Lid, and Aphex Twin.
But if you're looking for the best ambient out there, look no further than Wolfgang Voigt's works under the alias 'Gas':

My personal suggestion for ambient would have to be Porcupine Tree.
It's what I listen to when I need ambient.
For Ambient Industrial, check out Infetu or Atrium Carceri.
Needs more Eluvium.
Burzum
Darkspace
Xasthur
Ulver
Blut Aus Nord
Coldworld
Vinterriket

Idk why anybody would disagree. It's a good choice.
Need to add Mooma to this list. The group creates very pretty abstract ambient. You can get their album for free in mp3 of FLAC files!

Try Ghosts I-IV by Nine Inch Nails.
Yeah, Aphex Twin makes some really cool chillout music. Especially his track "Stone in Focus", I fell asleep to that once
For ambient i'd say theres nothing better, than Agalloch, Ulver and Carbon Based Life forms
