Hey everyone! We make acoustic guitar covers of (mainly) video game songs. Our acoustic cover of "Jump Up, Super Star!", the trailer theme from Super Mario Odyssey
That's some amazing work! [editline]28th July 2015[/editline] You guy's are amazingly in sync.

Dammit, I read it as Autistic cover What have you done to me, Internet?
Dammit, I read it as Autistic cover What have you done to me, Internet?
Believe it or not, that is absolutely not the first time we've heard that! Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that we know there is acoustic guitar in the videos, we'd probably have the same gut reaction.

As a quick extra, I'll post the cover that both of us are probably the most proud of: our take on the "Outset Island" theme from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.
Oh man, that takes me back!
Knowing that we can induce nostalgic feelings every now and then with a cover is an awesome feeling. Thank you for the kind words!
What kind of guitar is the one on the left?
What kind of guitar is the one on the left?
It's an Art & Lutherie Ami, made in Quebec. Solid cedar top. http://www.artandlutherieguitars.com/ami.htm
Had a final question: What could we do to make our videos better? We understand that acoustic guitar covers aren't exactly original, but they are our strong suit. What sorts of things would make the videos more enjoyable?
I wouldn't exactly worry too much about the presentation of the video since the main point is the music. Most people just scroll down or switch to another tab/window anyway. It looks fine to me too, you can easily see your whole body to see what you're doing and how you express yourself, lighting's fine and the quality isn't all blurred too. [editline]29th July 2015[/editline] you just made me realise how much I'd fucking love to play a guitar or any instrument for that matter

It really helps out to get an outside explanation on how people view the video quality, or how they respond to "music" channels on Youtube specifically. Those were most of my concerns, along with a worry that our channel was maybe missing something. Thank you so much!

Don't add an intro, or talk for 5 minutes before playing, etc. Most people just want to listen to the cover and that's it So basically keep it as is and do more covers. Especially covers of well-known or nostalgic songs will appeal

Youtube audiences are fickle, and the worst thing you can do is assume that people want to hear you go off on a tangent or introduce something for a minute or two. Again, very helpful advice. We'll keep the format as is, and we're definitely going to ease into the "bigger" tunes strategically (Gerudo Valley being a very key one).
We just finished our cover of the "Traverse Town" theme from Kingdom Hearts. Any sort of feedback or constructive criticism would be very helpful!
I was going to request Dragon Roost Island after hearing your Outset Island but then I found that you've already done it. I loved it by the way. Do you take requests?
I was going to request Dragon Roost Island after hearing your Outset Island but then I found that you've already done it. I loved it by the way. Do you take requests?
Thanks a lot! Really glad you enjoyed it. While we can't guarantee that we'll do all of the requests we receive, we do love hearing suggestions. We generally look into them and see if it is something we think we could have fun with or would like to arrange. We do have the next 5/6 covers planned out so it might take us a bit to get to the suggestion, but we would love to hear it! P.S. Is there any way to change the thread title? I figured it would just be easier to give the thread a title of "Acoustic Video Game Song Covers" or something. I used the edit function and changed the title using that, but it didn't seem to do anything.

Loving the Traverse Town cover by the way, you guys are so talented!

I did so and I was able to get the help I needed. Thank you :) And thanks as well for the kind words. It's dorky, but the Traverse Town theme means the world to me, and it was a cover that I was really looking forward to doing.

Quite honestly, for people who basically just joined and posted this, you did it exceedingly well. The music is actually really good, the quality is very decent, and the presentation is simple, clean, and very direct to the point. You also seem like really cool people judging from your posts and open to suggestions and shit, so good on you guys. Keep it up, you've got my attention. [editline]11th August 2015[/editline] Also, I really like to see that you guys are willing to look at and take into consideration how others view your videos (I'm assuming so you can keep doing it and get better). I'm quite the fan of modest efforts like this. [editline]11th August 2015[/editline] also pikmin pikmin pikmin, ai no uta would be fucking INCREDIBLE with your talent

Honestly, we wouldn't have minded if the response wasn't as kind as it has been. It's sort of the risk you run in sharing your stuff. The unfortunate thing with the way the Youtube algorithm and everything else works (to the best of our knowledge, anyways), is that you simply have to reach out in some capacity. Beyond that, both of us are crazy about doing music, and this project keeps us sane while we're working through original music, mainly due to the fact that getting attention with original stuff is usually a much more grueling process than sharing covers. Your feedback about our music and audio quality is amazingly helpful, so again, thank you very much. We're always open to suggestions, since we're really just two people and we want to be on top of how we can improve. We were surprised at how much goes into a Youtube video (camera angles, the clothes that we are wearing, lighting, even time of day), and how those things can affect how inviting a video may be. Thanks for the Pikmin suggestion! It may take a while, but we will definitely tackle something from that game (most likely the tune you suggested, but we'll give a solid listen to the series soundtracks beforehand). :)
Might I also ask what your audio setup was like? The guitars sound really crisp and I wanna guess that they're directly recorded during the performance but it sounds like they were recorded with a condenser mic or something beforehand. It's very impressive and gives you a leg up on most amateur covers tbh

So, the audio you are hearing is our performance, but we are able to tweak the sound afterwards. As to why we keep the condenser mics off-screen, it's mostly due to the fact that it makes the videos look slightly cluttered/crowded. There's something aesthetically pleasing about just being able to see the guitars, if that makes any sense!

That actually completely makes sense, and like I said it definitely works out aesthetically speaking, so I have to say that's a really good call on that one. [editline]11th August 2015[/editline] Also yeah, now that you mentioned it, the lighting looks super natural and pleasing. It really does feel and sound very homey but clearly has a lot of thought behind it. I am just thoroughly impressed

Always nice to hear that the stuff we try with lighting/etc. worked out!
Loving these videos! Would love to request a Final Fantasy 7 theme of some sorts! That would be EPIC.
Loving these videos! Would love to request a Final Fantasy 7 theme of some sorts! That would be EPIC.
Thank you so much Habibi! We are planning to do way more Final Fantasy stuff in the future, and from FF7 in particular, I think we're deciding between the Main Theme and a few others!
