It probably has to do with kids becoming teenagers and being introduced and/or looking for things that have a harder tone to them, which includes more mature music and animation, but they don't quite have a mature state of mind or refined tastes. Not saying that Linkin Park is bad, it's just the easy thing to go for when it comes to someone of that age.
