French far-leftist Jean-Luc Mélenchon held simultaneous presidential campaign rallies Sunday in two cities that are nearly 500km apart – appearing in the flesh in Lyon and as a three-dimensional spectre in suburban Paris.
Ok that's pretty damn impressive.

Since when is Mélenchon far-left?, his party looks like a typical nordic social democratic party: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_Party_(France)

He's a populist. He used to be in the socialist party, then he turned communist, now he's running for president with an odd sovereignty/economic interventionist shtick and I think he's a delightful orator.
The word gadget came up a lot this week discussing this hologram thingamajig but I think he did a good job of cluttering the political landscape in Lyon, where Le Pen and Macron were having a speech at the same time. Good going there.

He's also the first politician with a Silver Play Button

I mean, this might be a bit morbid but this is a great way to prevent being shot too, isn't it?
(I know that he was somewhere else in the flesh but if he wasn't).
I was at the Lyon meeting, it was very cool, he's a very impressive orator and have a lot of cool ideas.
damnit futurama stop being so accurate!
I wouldn't be surprised if most politicians used this in the future. They could give a speech in one location, and have portable holograms set up in other locations. It isn't as good as meeting people in person but it's definitely better than TV, and still lets local supporters of the politician meet each other and work together. And from what I gather the hardware isn't prohibitively expensive.
If television ever taught me anything it's that you can't go wrong with a man named Jean-Luc who has hologram technology.
