I've heard a lot of my friends disrespecting (IMHO) an amazing, now defunct band. To me, they definitely dominate (with a few select others) the top of the music food chain. If you don't like them or do, maybe we can a see your reasons. ================================================ My reasons for liking them: It all started back when I was about 15. The radio had become polluted with the likes of systematic rap, hip/hop, pop-rock and (good God) emo. I had been listened to stuff like KoRn, which I kind of regret, actually. Anyway I was reading Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy and got really interested in the author. After some reading, I discovered he named the bands last album "Division Bell". Curious to see what it was about, I asked my friend. Instantly, he lit up and said, "Before you get into Division Bell, start with their older stuff. Go from Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals to The Wall, then try the last couple albums." Instead, I picked up the compilation album Echoes and listened to the title track, "Echoes". I noticed the length and laughed, thinking that making a song longer than 4 minutes was the stupidest thing anyone could do with music. I was wrong! I think from their on out, I was hooked. I can admit that The Wall is overrated, but it's still damn good. Basically, they're able to transcend multiple genres and even dabble in trance. A good example of this is "One Of These Days", which still floors me to this day. There's actual composition going on in the tracks and you can't help but feel ethereal or mellow, or all the opposite when listening to their music. There's just this high quality few bands produce. Anyway, that's my reasoning. What's yours?
Not overrated, IMO. Their 70s stuff will go down as some of the best of all time.
Yes, they're very overrated. I don't see why, they're not that brilliant.
Depending on what musical style one prefers, I guess they could be considered overrated. I enjoy floyd albums like Meddle and Wish You Were Here the most. People with an advanced knowledge of music theory appreciate their work to this day. David Gilmour really is a fantastic musician, especially his solo records which consist mostly of a mash of different Jazz standards with an interesting feel.
Pink Floyd kicks ass
I like them because they play things that I've never heard anywhere else, and they're amazing.
i don't think so v:smile:v
i think that they're music doesn't seem original anymore because everyone copies off of it. I would say they're somewhat overrated but they definitely did have their impact on music
Overrated would be inaccurate. They've influenced everything beyond them. Don't confuse overrated with simply not liked.
I love their music, except for some of their earlier works with Syd Barret. They're not in any way overrated, they influenced music massively with their highly experimental work back in the late 60s early 70s, and even though the band went through many phases, they still managed to stay true to their sound. Echoes, High Hopes, Comfortably Numb, Time, all those and many more are absolutely brilliant tracks.
incredibly [editline]04:58PM[/editline] i'm so sick of hearing teens talk about pink floyd
Very, I mean I guess it is fine when you are high, but it just sucks when you are normal.
Very, I mean I guess it is fine when you are high, but it just sucks when you are normal.
Not really.
In the beginning, no. They were pretty awesome. More, Piper, Saucerfull, ect. were all great albums. But after Dark Side, things started to slip. I think they got greedy.
Not at all. One of my favorite bands of all time. It's actually tied for first place with The Doors and Led Zep.
Not at all. One of my favorite bands of all time. It's actually tied for first place with The Doors and Led Zep.
You are my new friend.
no
I love Pink Floyd, their music is awesome and I listen to it whenever I have some time alone.
It is not overrated.
when it comes down to musical taste and whats "good", everything is an opinion (unless the band is tone deaf and misses tons of notes)
They're a great band, but just like the Beatles and such, are overrated.
No. In fact, I'm listening to Pink Floyd right now, which is kinda creepy.
I only like 5 songs from Pink Floyd.
during their time no, now yes
Yes. So are the beatles and led zeppelin. led zeppelin being the worst of them probably. Not being sarcastic. Fucking hate them.
I honestly don't hear much people talking about Pink Floyd. Is it really popular on these forums? That'd be an exception. I'd think the overrated stuff would be any of the mainstream pop, rap, hip-hop or rock you hear on the radio. ANYONE NOTICE HOW THIS THREAD IS USELESS? EVERYONE JUST GIVES THEIR OWN OPINION WHICH CONFLICTS WITH HE NEXT ONE. OP, IF YOU THINK PINK FLOYD IS OVERRATED, THEN IT'S OVERRATED. IT DEPENDS ON YOU.
They're good, but not godly, as people make them out to be. To be honest, I only like 'Money' everything else is either boring or repetitive.
I used to think they were overrated before I started listening to them.
They're good, but not godly, as people make them out to be. To be honest, I only like 'Money' everything else is either boring or repetitive.
Have you heard 'Time'? The saddest song that I've ever heard.
They're good, but not godly, as people make them out to be. To be honest, I only like 'Money' everything else is either boring or repetitive.
Money is my LEAST favorite song on Dark Side of the Moon.
