• Trainee hypnotist accidentally puts himself in trance using mirror for five hours

Helmut Kichmeier, 27, was found by his wife, Joanna, staring into thin air after the bungle in their north London home as they prepared for a tour Mr Kichmeier, whose stage name is Hannibal Helmurto, had learned the skill to put himself into a somnabulistic trance to help him swallow multiple swords on stage. The performer is no stranger to mishaps after his debut in the Circus of Horrors ended with him being hospitalized after he skewered himself in front of a live audience. That's certainly a mesmerising story.
self-placebo'd :v:
self-placebo'd :v:
I really hate it when people call hypnosis a placebo. That's one of the things that I just really hate. I mean seriously.
I didn't read it I was too spaced-out. :sax:
I really hate it when people call hypnosis a placebo. That's one of the things that I just really hate. I mean seriously.
Hypnotism really is just a placebo thing. You can't heal yourself with it, you can't have suggestions implanted in your subconscious. Really, it does nothing. Its just a placebo thing. There is no scientific data to back it up.

Reminds me of Medusa.
I want to get hypnotised, just so I can see what it's like. Maybe I really would be trapped but still conscious or something
I really hate it when people call hypnosis a placebo. That's one of the things that I just really hate. I mean seriously.
Hypnosis is pretty much the ultimate placebo. You can't be hypnotized if you don't allow yourself to be hypnotized.
Shame...this is one of those stories that really stick in your throat, you know?
If you're talking about stage hypnosis, such as when people cluck around like chickens, that's closer to a lucid dream while the person is awake right? Thus I don't see how you can call it a placebo, other types of hypnotism, such as using it to quit smoking however may be considered placebo. But it's still not technically a placebo though is it? As they aren't being given a substance and being told it does 'x' when in fact it doesn't do anything(though upon further reading it's similar to the placebo effect). I imagine a large part of addiction is to do with the mind and we know the mind can get be affected by things, such as traumatic events, that can cause memory loss which is completely in your head as the memories are still there. Thus I don't see hypnosis as being too far-fetched, if you can convince someone to be a chicken then why can't you convince them that smoking isn't associated with their addiction? Sure it's all in their mind, but isn't that the whole point? Of course it's probably better to just do CBT, and obviously past life regression and the like are completely bullshit.
Sharp and to the point. That's what I like in a news article

Hypnosis affects your subconcious, but so does someone yelling in your ear. Thus, if you fall asleep while listening to a hypnotist, hypnosis can affect your dreams or even keep you in a state where you're almost dreaming but not quite, which makes you more suggestible. Ultimately hypnosis can't actually CONTROL you but it can make you do things while you're already in a very suggestible state.
Helmut lol

We barely know shit about how whole brain, and subconscious works, and saying that something can't be real because we don't see how it could is short seeing and stupid.
Dont you mean eww person in general.
Yes, my mistake.
Reminds me of that dude that was stuck in his chair after that live hypnotist thing in silly England a while ago
You can have SURGERY while under hypnosis.
