Let's have a bass thread!
Post your equipment, brag about it, shit on others for having better equipment than you have, the works!
Here's mine;

Bass is Washburn XB-120 Bantam Series, only difference is a little switch to switch between pickups, I named him Ívar.

And yes, the picture you see behind the strap is Jimi Hendrix. I got bored so I decided to decorate this beast a bit. The head also has some bling on it.

The beast is a Behringer Ultrabass BX600. Real good sound.
The guitar you see on the bed is not mine, Stratocaster replica my friend loaned me.
Now post yours and discuss!
I have a shitty squier. Hopefully gonna get something better after Christmas. Any recommendations? I'm gonna be doing Classic Rock stuff, mainly Metallica, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, etc.
My main gear:
Musicman Stingray PBB H 3EQ
Gallien Krueger Backline 600 Head
Ashdown MAG-210T Cabinet
ME-20b MultiFX

I've got an Ibanez SR500 and a Yamaha fretless P-bass run through a Traynor DB100. no images though, camera's broken
I own an Ibanez IJXB190, which I installed DiMarzio pickups in. I also own a Schecter Omen 5 string, which I play live with a Behringer Ultrabass BX1800 combo amp. If someone wants to recommend a decent half stack to me, please do.
Real men play bass :c00l:

I recommend Washburns. Real good, good sound and I love the looks. May be a bit pricy, but worth every cent.
I have no bass D:
I thought there was already a discussion on this. Maybe it got archived. Anyway, I really like playing the bass. The songs I like making most are the ones that are chordal with lots of different stuff going on in the bass. The bass can just give so much direction to the song. I don't like it all that much when the bass just plays root notes with a simple 1/8 note rhythm. It just isn't utilizing what it could be used for.
Well here are my basses.
Beware bad Ipod pictures may rape your eyes.
I never knew these pictures were so horrific.
Tip! Zoom all the way out for decent looking pictures!

I use a, uh, Westone bass for recording stuff
It sound okay
I play guitar, but at some point in the next year or so. Depending on whether or not I get a job. I think I'll probably buy a cheap bass.
Couldn't hurt. Right?

Only if you hold your wrist in the wrong angle for too long.
But aside from the obvious physical trauma you could get with the wrong technique it couldn't hurt.
I play bass and stuff, but I wanted to post to say how amazing it is being at a big gig (just got back from Gorillaz), standing front and centre and having the bass reverberate through your body. I hadn't been to a big concert in a couple of years, it's such an awesome experience being infront of the booming bass speakers.
Oh hey guys I'm a stupid wannabe guitarist but I'm considering switching to manly bass. I can't remember though, can bass guitars plug into guitar amps and not destroy the amp? Or will they damage it and it actually is only guitar which can be plugged into bass amp? Only asking this so that I can use my guitar amp as a temporary amp until I get a proper bass amp.

A bass guitar will destroy a regular guitar amp, a regular electric guitar on the other hand works perfectly fine on a bass amp.
Cello...you got a bass!
Vintage V1005, best bass ever. 5 strings, gold hardware, natural finish, neck-thru construction. Managed to pick it up in perfect condition for £250.
Well, best bass other than a Rick 4001/3.

You can do it, turn down the "Bass" on the amp and you have very little chance of blowing the speakers.
It will sound shit, but if all you have access to is a guitar amp this is the way to go till you get a bass amp.
The only reason that people say you can't is because guitar speakers aren't designed for that sort of excursion. The chances of breaking are much reduced by reducing the bass frequencies going to the amp. You will know instantly if you are overexerting speakers - It sound like a cardboard "fart". If you have a 100W guitar amp, playing the bass through it at bedroom volumes is hardly going to destroy it, the speakers can take far more abuse.
Another option is use the headphones output, then you can have it sound however you want.
I play drums but I always wanted to pick up and play bass but my friends said I look like and idiot with anything other than sticks :(

The epitome of bass.

Well, I do have a 100W amp, but it's the MG100DFX, which is practically entry level I think? But I think I might as well save up for a bass+amp then. I can't really risk it because I can't afford to be buying a bass and replacing my guitar amp. Glad I asked this before going ahead though!
Haha yes I found an entry level bass and amp (both Ashton probably from a starter pack) going for $50 AUD. For $50 I don't think I can go wrong even if it is terrible
Uh oh no automerge, uh, sorry for the double post...
You bassists are so underrated! You guys rock! <3 I want to get a bass really bad, since when I play my acoustic guitar (which I am crap at) I always play with with my fingers lol. I think a bass would suit me more.
also related badass fuckin bass cover

Something about a bass that is so satisfying to hear, people don't appreciate it as much.

Holy fuck this guy is amazing.
I just started playing a week ago, I love it, though I'm terrible at it. I'm ordering this in a few weeks;

The guitar I have is nothing special however.
i have a cheap bass, cheap amp, cheap bod pedal
am hoping to buy an iceman over christmas if i have the funds for it
I have a shitty squier. Hopefully gonna get something better after Christmas. Any recommendations? I'm gonna be doing Classic Rock stuff, mainly Metallica, Cream, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, etc.
Metallica isn't classic rock.
But go for the Squier VM Precision. Or if you want complete tonal control, the Squier Jaguar is best.
(Yes I know, I recommend Squiers. But they're good in tone, good quality and good pricing as long as you buy the Vintage Modified or the Classic Vibe series (The latter being more expensive and only available in a few colours.))
Anyway, my stuff:
Steiner Acoustic Jumbo

Squier VM Jazz Bass, which I nicknamed Anne.

Homemade 5 string

Homemade P-bass

Plus two Behringer amps, one is 180 Watt and the other 30 Watt
Are acoustics any good to muck around on? I may plan on getting one in the future.
