But, mostly, Maher stuck to issues on which they agreed, including free speech and comedy. The pair also found common ground on the controversy surrounding their respective speaking engagements at UC Berkeley and the subject of political correctness. At one point Maher noted “that part of liberalism that has gone off the deep end.”

Maher is known for supporting a number of progressive causes but also, as he put it to The Times last year, is inclined to point out when “liberals … have spinach on their teeth” on certain issues, including radical Islam.

That's exactly what it is. So when he says stupid shit like, "I think gays should get back in the closet," (a statement he actually made BTW), he can immediately turn around and say, "Oh by the way, I'm gay-- so you can't attack my opinion, and it's more valid than yours is."

Of course then, the right-wingers put him on a pedestal and cite his opinions like he's a prophet. It's politically-convenient for them because of these circumstances, even though last time I checked one lone fuckwit's opinion isn't worth much in a country with more than 320 million people of many different races/ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, cultures, etc. But goddamn do they love to play him up, and he's so smug he eats the attention up as he plays himself up.

He's pissing off a lot of people though. So this is all pretty much from memory, but it starts off with him starting a website and failing to pay his employees. Then he joins Breitbart and writes gutter journalism, combined with him being gay, it made a great poster boy. Then comes the event that gave him the jump start he needed, gamergate. He latched onto it almost immediately and was loved for his reporting. It gave him enough air time that he got to start Breitbart tech and during gamergate he was already touring to meet fans, which no doubt made him think Dangerous Faggot Tour would be a good idea.

I don't think he would've been relevant at all if people had no-platformed him during gamergate.

TLDR; Gay jew tells people what they want to hear, they use him as an excuse that they aren't intolerant assholes.
