City council approved a new transit bylaw on Wednesday that makes singing on a Winnipeg Transit bus a ticketable offence. The rule came as part of a larger transit bylaw that makes it against the law not to pay your bus fare and establishes an array of “inappropriate conduct” for which someone can be kicked off a bus or fined. The provision for the city’s more “musical” guests, says without permission from Winnipeg Transit, no one can play a musical instrument, sing or offer a live musical performance on a city bus or face a fine of $100 plus court costs.
Why? What's wrong with a little musical entertainment during the daily travel?
Jokes on them, I'm in a vuvuzela band.

no one can play a musical instrument, sing or offer a live musical performance on a city bus
I think you can get fined in the UK for playing music, but nobody does anything and dealing with loud wob wob drum and bass on the bus has become so common for me it's almost white noise. But singing? I think that is too far, what if Pavarotti were to appear from his grave.
They can't fine everybody. Time to get 50 people on a bus to start an impromptu "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall".
So a parent can't sing to their child?
Leave the child at home and let TV and rated M games raise them, everything will work out.
Leave the child at home and let TV and rated M games raise them, everything will work out.
worked for me
Yeah, but who actually sings on public transport? Maybe it's just my British attitudes to this stuff shining through, but I can't imagine why anyone would be annoyed by this.
So a parent can't sing to their child?
Just because they can fine you doesn't mean they will. I think this is more about curbing annoying people from bothering everyone else more than anything.

Is that a thing people do?
They can't fine everybody. Time to get 50 people on a bus to start an impromptu "100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall".
Sounds like a good way for Winnipeg to earn a quick 5,000 bucks.
I don't really understand why they would need to be singing to the child on the bus though. Is that a thing people do?
Babies, perhaps.
So a parent can't sing to their child?
quietly singing to a baby cradled in your hands is a bit different from singing out loud for everyone on the bus to hear [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] bus drivers aren't going to see this as a black or white thing, lol. they have common sense too
Yeah, but who actually sings on public transport? They play music and sing very loud and then hold cups to your face to try to get you to give them cash. It's not the worst thing in the world but it can be very aggravating, especially early in the morning. This may not be similar to what is happening on these buses but if it is similar, then I am on board.
I live in New York and everytime I take a train there is usually a pretty annoying performer. Dancing and singing everywhere while most people are just trying to nap or be left alone, and then they start begging for money. Pretty annoying.
I don't even like people who sing out loud to their music while wearing headphones, wish this was a policy on every bus.
If only they would do this in our shithole, I mean, country. And also keep an officer on board each bus to curb hooliganism.
bus drivers aren't going to see this as a black or white thing, lol. they have common sense too
People thought schools had common sense too yet look at the ridiculous shit coming out of them.
People thought schools had common sense too yet look at the ridiculous shit coming out of them.
you honestly think any self respecting bus driver is going to fine a mother cradling and quietly singing her baby to sleep/calm it?
Don't say something that rhymes then or you'll get charged for rapping
Why? What's wrong with a little musical entertainment during the daily travel?
Because there's a lot of cranky people on our buses. I've seen a fight start because one dude was talking to another dude to loudly I even find it annoying when people listen to their music so loudly that everyone else can hear it I don't want to listen to blaring screamo while studying on the way home
power corrupts the weak
i hope this is satirical [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] bus drivers arent robots
Blaring screamo is one thing, but a fight because people were talking too loud? How loud is too loud? Belleville and Kingston transits are full of loud people and chatter, I'd hate to see what would happen if that rule was passed here.

How loud is too loud? Belleville and Kingston transits are full of loud people and chatter, I'd hate to see what would happen if that rule was passed here.
loud is loud. people should use their common sense and talk with an inside voice [editline]9th July 2014[/editline] the only loud buses here are schoolbuses. bus drivers have no problem with telling someone who is being particularly loud to shut up or get off the bus, and people usually respect others on there
so that means I can listen to brilliance like this if I'm on a bus?
worked for me
Hell yea. Hey want go burn some hobos alive?
Always needs to be posted in a Winnipeg thread.
