Every year on the 8th of March, we celebrate the International Women's Day, a day where we focus on females all over the globe and their struggle against misogyny and for equal rights, even today. We also celebrate how far we've come in terms of gender equality, and what we need to do to further reach that goal. Women, as you all know, has been suppressed for who knows how long. They were often reduced to nothing as objects for the "superior" man to have and desire. They were more or less shoved into the kitchen, with their duties being cooking dinner, cleaning the home, giving birth to children and watching over said children while the man went out and either fought in wars or simply voted for the next president. Yes, women had few to no rights once. They didn't have the right to vote, they weren't allowed to participate in big political decisions, and you can bet they were sent out of the room, laughed at if they dared suggest that they'd join the great wars. Girls were brought up with a mentality that said that their duties were at homes, and that they had to get a husband else they'd fail at life. However, in more modern times, around the early 1900's, a movement for women's right begun. Tired of oppression and inequality, women everywhere started speaking out against misogyny, demanding respect equal to their counterpart in the gender spectrum, the men. In 1907, Finland allowed women to vote, being the first country to do so, followed shortly by Norway in 1913 and Denmark in 1915. More and more countries started following Finland's example and by 1954 the majority of countries in Europe and the US had equal voting rights for both men and women. As years would pass by, women became more and more respected in society. Alas, we aren't quite there yet. Even though we're on the right path, women everywhere, even today, are oppressed and abused for simply being female. Some countries still have limited women's rights, and some have none at all. In some countries, women aren't allowed to drive cars, even, which is pretty insane if you think about it. A hot topic today is abortion, and the right to have one, and how doctors can deny aiding women in having one. That too is part of women's right, the right to decide over one's own body. So I'd like you to take the opportunity to think about how women struggle even today with misogyny and the fight for equality, and how you can help. Treat women as equals, and respect them as a human being. And for female Facepunchers, enjoy. This day is your day. If you want more information, I found this website to be pretty informal, so I'd suggest you'd take a peek there.
Why do we need a single day for recognizing women's right when we can celebrate it everyday?
That is why credit card was invented.
That is why credit card was invented.
Maybe if we got equal pay and work rights we could have the money to buy our own stuff.
How come women get a day in March while men have to be stuck with a day in November, it isn't fair!
How come women get a day in March while men have to be stuck with a day in November, it isn't fair!
We germans don't even have a men's day, now that's unfair! All we're left with is father's day, which usually turns into a men's day. Edit: No wait, we have a world men's day, which seems to be the same as the international one, just with a different name.

I can't remember which page it was from, but on Facebook someone had posted something like: "International Women's Day. It was supposed to be yesterday but they took so long getting ready that it's today."
Surprised that even developing countries celebrate this.
Such as like... Margaret Thatcher?
Women like her and Catherine the Great show us that even people who have sex with horses can succeed.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corazon_Aquino Ok buddy. Husband gets assassinated. Its a joke that Estrada (her second successor) still had a gig as an actor after his arrest and even ran for President again in 2010. Also, if I recall correctly, he's still mayor of Manila. I really hate Philippine politics.
Elizabeth I of England
Tbh she was actually a shit Queen who is famous because of her spin doctors. Remained a virgin and refused to make any heirs to ensure the future security of the country. In charge of an ailing bankrupt state that was kept afloat through measures such as selling piracy licenses. She had barely any control over the disorganized navy, and pretty much most all of her military expeditions (save for privateer raids) were failures. Her country was full of sky-high unemployment and ineffective price controls kept being pushed. To bring Ireland under her control, she started a policy of burning crops and inducing artificial famine throughout the country. Standards of living consistently fell, repression on Catholics increased, and she was forced to hold the whole place together by forming an early secret service and spreading propaganda. She eventually worked around parliament to sell monopolies to raise cash, which lead to a great deal of corruption and further economic stagnation. The numbers of beggars and demobilized sailors rapidly increased and became such a nuisance that the first poor laws had to be passed to deal with them. Even when accounting for all of the great writers (such as Shakespeare), much of their works were often censored and Elizabeth never really supported the arts anyways. But that can be forgiven, given that her successor and his dynasty was even worse.
I thought New Zealand was the first country to grant universal voting rights for women?
