I'm getting started on my Halloween costume for this year. Decided to go as Ash from Evil Dead, one of my favorite movies. Of course if you're gonna go as Ash you gotta start with the most important part: The Chainsaw. I started off getting a legit Homelite XL, same chainsaw they used in the movie: [t]http://www.bookofthedead.ws/website/images/props_ed2_chainsaw_photo.jpg[/t] I started off gutting the insides of the chainsaw, and sawing off the top handle, as well as a hole in the back to put my hand through. I also bought some vent piping that fits my arm to use as the arm hole. Also added some PVC tighteners to make it look more functional (You can also see the gun I bought that I'm going to turn into the boomstick in the back there) [t]http://i.imgur.com/Xy8raaX.jpg[/t] I built a top cover out of sheet metal, and attached it to the chainsaw with a hinge in the front, letting me open it up whenever I want to work on the inside (at least until I finalize the chainsaw and screw the cover to the arm hole) I then cut a piece of wood to use as the handle for me to hold onto inside of the saw. [t]http://i.imgur.com/9J8w1vc.jpg[/t] Here's how it looks all closed and put together at the moment. [t]http://i.imgur.com/4rgp01E.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/OpRAvTb.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/Oq0wC45.jpg[/t] I still need to build something that I can attach the chainsaw bar onto, build the top handle, put a side grate over where the homelite sticker used to be, and finally screw everything together to make it sturdy. I've also bought a proper shirt, pants, and shoes, as well as a bunch of belts to build his shotgun holster/pullcord hook assembly, I'll take some photos of those tomorrow. Anybody got any tips to make clothes look wet and stained? The biggest thing that bugs me about Ash cosplays is that they never bother making the shirt look realistically grimed up.
In my experience, I use pastels to grime clothes up. It takes some time, but if you do it right it looks fucking great.
Groovy
Anybody got any tips to make clothes look wet and stained?
Grease.
this is the coolest. i made one out of wood for halloween once but this wreaks my shit
Built the assembly that will hold the saw together [t]http://i.imgur.com/YIXxksY.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ekp47AS.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/4GUddHa.jpg[/t] Now the trouble is screwing it into the body. [editline]23rd September 2013[/editline] I'd like to get a bigger chain bar but they're just so damn expensive :C And none of them are the right shape either.
How far are you going with this? Are you doing the hair streak?
How far are you going with this? Are you doing the hair streak?
Nah, was never much of a fan of the hair streak. Gonna be going with "beginning of Army of Darkness" Ash Though I am still going to have to get a bit of a haircut and dye my hair black.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/AL7KtAD.jpg[/t] This thing came out even better than I'd hoped. Just need to tighten up the back a tiny bit.

The cashier gave me some funny looks when I showed up at the register buying 7 different belts.
looks dang good tho
this is awesome keep going
are you gonna rip your shirt and soak it in dirt water too like in the movie? pls do
6 pints clear Karo syrup 3 pints red food coloring 1 pint non-dairy creamer 1 drop blue food coloring Mix together then shower with it. If your shirt breaks into pieces when you fold it then you've done it right. Sun dry it and roll around in the sand for the Army of Darkness look. For added authenticity have Sam Raimi throw debris at you.
Got any pictures of what the results look like? Unless that's the actual recipe from the movie.
It's from Bruce Campbell's autobiography.
It's from Bruce Campbell's autobiography.
It looks like that's just the recipe for the blood they used, I want to go more for the muddy and filthy look rather than just being covered in blood.
Nah, was never much of a fan of the hair streak. Gonna be going with "beginning of Army of Darkness" Ash
b-but he got the streak at the end of Evil Dead II :v:
It looks like that's just the recipe for the blood they used, I want to go more for the muddy and filthy look rather than just being covered in blood.
Fair enough, he seems to have dried off by the time Army of Darkness comes around. Besides, you'd have to apply it like this:
b-but he got the streak at the end of Evil Dead II :v:
But NOT at the beginning of Army of Darkness! [t]http://geekleagueofamerica.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/large_army_of_darkness_blu-ray_2x-1024x576.jpg[/t] The retconned the streak in AoD.
AOD is AOTP [editline]27th September 2013[/editline] all over the place

You're gonna need a better gun.
You're gonna need a better gun.
Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a fake side by side double barrel? That was the best I could find and it was a generic brand from a Halloween store. Besides, that one I've got has a good profile, the angle in that photo doesn't let you see a whole lot of it. All it needs is a bit of a paint job and it'll look like a proper boomstick.
i though his harness was brown? (just looked black because of the lighting and hell it's been through) [editline]29th September 2013[/editline] either way, small detail. looks amazing [editline]29th September 2013[/editline] also, i think his pants might be corduroy, and darker, if that's any help. (you might wanna look into that tho)

But that's going to change once I dirty them up.
Ha, I used the same fake shotgun for my Halloween thing. Then again since I made it the day of the party I just took it, cut up a best buy (S-Mart) shirt and some khakis and wore it. This is looking much better. Keep up the good work.
Got the chainsaw good and bolted together, as well as built the top handle. Still just need to make the side grate, put back the gas and oil caps, and screw in the exhaust pipe. Plus give it a bit more general wear and tear. [t]http://i.imgur.com/hcXRvNP.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/6tzgv4j.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/NZEMeRt.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/YTK35NF.jpg[/t]
