As long as you go for a game design degree at a REAL technical college, you're likely to get some job in the industry (probably not game design though). At the college I go to, both of the video game related degrees are "design" degrees, but it's mostly modeling, animation, rigging, programming, level design, etc. as well as a lot of general art classes and the other general education classes you need for a bachelors (writing, history, etc.)
