Come here to discuss anything military, besides guns, as there is a firearms thread already: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/910381-Firearms-V.-Super-Redneck-Edition But please, if we are going on the topic on Iraq or Afghanistan, no politics please. Oh, and I will focus on modern military, and then go back to 80s-90s and so on. CAN SOMEONE MAKE A THREAD TITLE IMAGE? Like everyone does for their megathread? You'll receive hearts for your effort, sorry. list of stuff to do: LAND VEHICLES Armoured cars-WIP Tanks-not started Armoured personnel carrier-not started Infantry fighting vehicle-not started Tank destroyer-not started Anti-air vehicles-not started AIR VEHICLES Attack aircraft-not started Bombers-not started Fighters-not started Reconnaissance aircraft-not started Logistics aircraft-not started Helicopters-not started Multirole aircraft-not started Experimental Aircraft-not started NAVAL UNITS: Aircraft carrier-not started Surface Combatant-not started Submarine-not started Patrol Combatant-not started Amphibious Warfare-not started Combat Logistics-not started Mine Warfare-not started Coastal Defense-not started Mobile Logistics-not started Support-not started Service Type Craft-not started COASTAL DEFENCES Anti-tank weapons-not started Anti-air weapons-not started Anti-ship weapons-not started Radars and shit-not started ORDNANCEs Bombs-not started missiles-not started cannon rounds-not started artillery rounds-not started Nukes-not started grenades-not started mines-not started EQUIPMENT Scopes and attachments-not started Combat Uniforms-not started MISC SHIT Booby traps-not started All the cool experimental and strange weapons-not started FIRST CATEGORY: ARMOURED CARS AND TRANSPORTS Armoured cars are mostly meant for transporting troops, and for light fire support, as most of them do not carry large guns or any weapons. They are also designed to protect the occupants against small arms fire, but not against anti tank weapons or mines. As compared to tanks, they are lighter, carry very little or no weapons, and their size and maneuverability is more compatible with tight urban spaces designed for wheeled vehicles. 4X4 High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HUMVEE) High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or also known as the Humvee, is a 4 wheel drive transport designed to transport cargo and troops across land. The Humvee is known to be able to cross across a huge terrain, as seen in the recent combat role in Afghanistan and Iraq. There are also many variants of the Humvee, from ambulance vehicles, to anti-tank vehicles, and anti-air vehicles. Right now, it is currently being used in afghanistan. Due to the large amount of deaths caused by IEDs, the US military made upgrades and improvement to the vehicle, adding Armour plates to the doors and the hood. They have also added bulletproof glass to the windscreen and crew doors, and armour plates to the exposed gunner as well. All this improvement allowed the vehicle to withstand most small arms fire, and RPG attacks. But the belly of the vehicle is exposed to mines and IED, and the weight has been significantly increased. The ISAF and US Military has also asked for MRAP vehicles to replace the humvees. This is also the current main vehicle of the United States Army. M1117 Armored Security Vehicle Guardian This vehicle is currently the answer to most of the Humvee's problems. It gives the person inside much more protecting, being able to withstand small arms fire, RPGs, and IEDs as well. It is a 4 wheel drive, but the gunner is protected and armed with a 40 mm Mk 19 grenade launcher and a .50 caliber M2HB machine gun. At about 15 tons, the M1117 is lighter than the 20 ton Stryker ICV or 25 ton M2 Bradley armored vehicle. It is only 7 feet 9½ inches (2.4 meters) wide, compared to 11 feet 9½ inches (3.6 meters) for a Bradley. Buttoned up, the crew has 360º visibility. In size and capability, it fits between the Humvee and the $1.42 million Stryker. The crew compartment is fully air-conditioned. The ASV is built by Textron in Louisiana.(copied from wikipedia because I'm lazy :v:) There are different variants of the vehicle as well, like the Humvee. International MaxxPro MRAP The International MaxxPro, is a 4 wheel drive vehicle transport, designed to counter the increasing amount of IED attacks. It has a v-shaped hull, designed to deflect the blast from an IED or mine. It can carry up to 6-10 troops and a gunner manning the 50 cal M2HB at the top of the vehicle. 8X8 vehicles BTR-80 The BTR-80 is an 8x8 wheeled armoured personnel carrier. It is made by the soviets during the 80s. It was very widely used in the soviet occupation of Afghanistan, and is armed with a 14.5mm KPVT machine gun, which is capable of attacking infantry, light vehicles and even helicopters. It also has a 7.62mm PKT machine gun, mainly used against infantry. It is mainly used to transport infantry, and not used as a support vehicle. It also have firing ports at the side of the vehicles, allowing soldiers inside to fire at enemies without getting hurt. It is also capable of going over tough terrain, and even swim in the water. But, unfortunately, it can only withstand small arms fire, but not RPGs or IEDs. After the Soviet Union has collapsed, several countries have bought the vehicle, and made some improvements or upgrades. Some added heavier weaponry, better armour and better engines.

Have fun fighting wars for rich people, not getting paid money as a veteran (in usa) and having mental illness for the rest of your life.
No thanks I don't want a plastic MG42.
Doesn't have to be plastic, might be a metal Air Soft gun. But who needs them anyway. [editline]8th November 2010[/editline] But in topic, Army Sucks.
Guys, lay off. He's just trying to make a thread, and is obviously putting effort into it.
The army are just the little people, fighting and dying for bigger people, who are using war for their own good.

Good thread, OP. Can anyone tell me what the difference between an IFV and an APC is?
It's HMMVEE
Good thread, OP. Can anyone tell me what the difference between an IFV and an APC is?
Armoured Personal carrier, is designed to carry troops, and are more armed and have stronger armour as compared to your average humvee. IFV is designed to transport troops as well, and to give fire support. It varies. APC's have different variants, while IFV all seems to be vehicles like the Bradly, BMP, LAV.
It's HMMVEE
No, its HMMWV.
MG42 is way larger then on that picture.
why make threads like this? it's just copying and pasting.
So....just american stuff? Ok, not my kind of thread...
Or maybe we need oil in order to go on with our daily lives.
Seeing that alot of oil is wasted in the Gulf of Mexico. Our daily lives will change soon.
