Well. Here it is, I got my 'Wacom Bamboo Pen' today and I drew this. Its a sad Mexican (Ive been playing alot of Red Dead) This isnt meant to be offensive towards Mexicans...

What do you think? It was VERY rough and only took around 40 minutes, but how is it for a first try.
Jesus mother of god! I'm a mexican and I'm incredibly fucking offended!
[editline]12:26AM[/editline]
We're not all sad!
[editline]12:27AM[/editline]
Seriously though, look in a mirror; human head's aren't that shape.
I was trying to keep it simple. I cant draw for crap IRL and the body is never been my strong point.
Ill keep that in mind for my next drawing, thanks :)
You should always block out your basic shape using primitives. USually when I do heads, I use a large circle for the upper skull and a smaller circle for the chin/jaw area. I then play around with the outline from that, changing the jawline, chin shape etc.
Everyone can be good at art, come just have to work harder. It's less about skill and more about passion, determination and perseverance.
Woah. Did it really took you fourty minutes, to make this? Really? Now consider this: I join to FacePunch, because of this picture. Okay? Because of this picture I finally snapped and said: you know what, fuck it.
But really, fourty minutes of painting with Wacom, really? Was this your first time painting on PC with a tablet (You did say that you got the Wacom tablet today, but you never said that it was your first tablet) or what really took you so long to make this: The shapes, the drawing, making the emotions match or the coloring.
Did it really take you fourty minutes to draw this?
As for the painting, I do not know if you wanted to have that realistic look or was it just stylized. Anyway, some of the proportions are way off and the use of color was lacking. Perhaps it was a stylistic choice of yours. Oh well. On top of that, there is not much emotion on the "man's" face so you may want to re-desing that. Again, I do not know if this was supposed to be a realistic portrait. Look in the mirror, try using reference images for your painting next time. Also, not every single Mexican wears a sombrero. On top of that, why is his skin pale white? What actually make's him a mexican? The sombrero? If you really wanted to have a more stylistic approach to this, use more colors and lines, like this painting:

The above picture was actually google'd with the words, "Sad Mexican".
Hopefully I haven't been to critical on you, but only by learning and practising you can become good.
And you can ask yourself now: "Was this really a thread worthy?"
Well fuck, that was one hell of a first post.
Well it sure was one of the better first posts
He doesn't look sad, more slightly confused and disgruntled at some regularity that annoys him, like a pine cone stuck in the lawn mower again.
Emotion = eyebrows
Also, it looks like a 3 minute sketch.
Yeah this... isn't 40 minutes of work ha.
Oh and that sketchy line art doesn't fly, try cleaning that up or your work will never improve.
Where're the ears?

Wish I could draw :(
@ZOMG
I'm Mexican too. But I'm not offended, I find this really fucking funny!
We're not sad at all, its just how we look when we're like :geno:.
Nice picture. Wasn't worth posting though.
Good job man.
I can understand how this might take 5-10 minutes, but Jesus H. Christ, 40 fucking minutes?
misproportioned, head ends the instant hat start, bulge on top is misaligned, horribly sketchy and unclean, colouring doesn't even go till sides no shading whatsoever and it's what we regard as 2 minute shit, just because you wanked and had dinner in the process doesn't mean that thing took you 40 minutes.
Congratulations, you just wasted what, 200 dollars?
First stuff you make almost never deserves a thread and this is too simple to deserve a thread anyway.
If you have in any intrest of improving then look up tutorials and reference images.
Drawspace.com and deviantart and such. But practise on pen and paper. Learn to see and break shit down into basic shapes like sphere and cube and hippy shit like that. Also you should've atleast done proper lineart. For paintings use bigger surfaces, too. Like 2000-ish pixels per side. But don't think about it unless you have filled atleast one sketchbook cover to cover.
Ask and some people here are more than happy to help.

I was poking fun at Edward Norton's facial shape being the same as the sad Mexican's.
how the hell could that take 40 mins, goddamn
Remember the Photoshop Mexican thread? I wish I could find it.
I expected a pic of Sad Keanu photoshopped into a mexican, i wasn't dissappointed.
Look at this motherfucker

No wonder he's sad, he's a God damn potato!
That took you 40 minutes?!!
I do not understand why people react at 40 minutes.
I rather react at him saying it took ONLY 40 minutes. As if he did it fast.
That 40 minutes was probably not the time it took to draw. But the time scale it took me to draw and do whatever else I do on the computer.
So, I guess maybe 25 minutes drawing, 15 or 20 minutes pissing around with the controls and buttons. Sorry for confusing you a bit.
To be honest, I cant draw for shit and this is the first time ive tryed to draw anything in around 3 years (except for design drawings, but theyre different) Maybe im just bad at drawing and should stop now?
Im not very talented at much so I guess it just needs practice and better geometry?
Design drawings are not different much.
It all depeds if you want to proceed, you should follow tutorials on sites like drawspace.com or deviantart.
If you don't want to then fuck all.
There's no such thing as talent, only practise and being retarded.
I meant design drawings as buildings electrical and mechanical designs.
I will follow those tutorials, thanks for that.
practise and being retarded.
Looks like you've almost got the retarded part down.
woop de do I cant grammar. I dont care much anyway since smartness is gone now.
