A Charlotte woman had her son arrested for stealing her Pop-Tarts earlier this week.
According to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police report, the mother called investigators on Monday to report her Pop-Tarts had been stolen.
She fingered her own son, who is a juvenile, as the culprit.
Neighbor Fred Patrick could not stop laughing when he first learned an arrest had been made over Pop-Tarts. He knows the young boy.
"He seems real nice to me. I mean, he is real respectful," Patrick said.
The report said that the boy was placed under juvenile arrest and was charged with larceny/misdemeanor.
Another neighbor, Tiffany Covington, said in her house, food is there for everyone.
"It would be nice if they asked, but they don't. They are kids," she said.
NBC Charlotte waited over two hours for the mother to come home Wednesday evening. Apparently warned that a reporter was waiting at her front door, she parked her car a block away and slipped into her house through the back.
She emerged only briefly to hurl an obscenity and then slammed the door.
Truly, this criminal scum got what he deserved. :v:
But in all seriousness, I am surprised they police even showed up in the first place, let alone arrested him.

They actually arrested him? Those are fucking douche bag cops
Someone shouldn't be a mother and someone should reconsider their duties as a police officer.
pop tarts are like $3.. don't the police actions cost taxpayers a lot more than $3.
What a nutbag. I wonder if the kid could use this incident and file a complaint with child protective services and petition the court for emancipation. Surely he could find a relative or friend to stay with.
I think this is more serious then a pop-tart, should of arrested the mother instead.

Sucks that now he legally has to be honest and state any crimes or misdemeanors hes committed at say an interview.
"Any bad history?"
"I stole my mom's poptarts."
:pwn:
According to the Police, it was the best choice all round.
But seriously, there's serious disciplinary issues, and then there's kids eating food that's in their own fucking home. I don't see how getting him in court sanctioned disciplinary training would be good for him, in the long.
The boy will not be sent to regular criminal court now. Instead, he is being referred to a new program aimed at stopping kids from starting a life of crime.
I heard he was planning a huge bust on the cookie jar next week.
If he got arrested doesnt this show up on like a record or something? So like when you get pulled over and the officer comes up to you and is like
"So you got arrested for taking a poptart?"
"Yeah"
"HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

If he was doing things bad enough to land him in a scared straight equivalent, why the ridiculous charge involving pop tarts?
Terrible precedent for them to set for this new program.
I bet it was a smore poptart. those shits are fucking good, I'd press charges if someone stole mine too.
DON'T FUCKTARTS WITH POPTARTS

It's the way that news is delivered that makes this funnier than it should be.
......................................................................All those years that my mother(rest and bless her soul) said she was gonna call the cops because I drank the last glass of juice or ate the last ice cream sandwich, I thought it was just a parent thing to scare kids into not doing something. Makes me glad she never went through with it if they actually will arrest a kid for it.
Thought seriously, unless it was like, Solid Gold, Essence Of Immortality or Dodo Roast flavored, actually calling the cops over a Pop-Tart is extremely over doing it.
That's not how police records work, they don't specify the crime. On the records it would say "charged with 1st degree theft" or whatever
Thanks mom and thanks obama.
What the fuck is wrong with America? Arresting a child for "stealing" a poptart? My God..

It won't be on his record after he turns 18. It's still fucking ridiculous.
Love how the neightbour just laughs upon being asked about it.

Where can i buy these flavors?
Pop tarts aren't even worth stealing. They are horribly dry and too sweet.
Absolutely disgusting. Some people don't have any poptarts at all.

Death sentence for this kid is minimum punishment
This is the city: Charlotte, North Carolina. Nearly 800,000 people live here... 80,000 of them are between the ages of fifteen an nineteen. Sometimes one of these children steal something. That's when I go to work. I carry a badge.

It was Monday, May 21. It was hot in Charlotte. We were working the day watch out of Theft Division. The boss is Captain Brown. My partner is Bill Gannon. My name is Friday.
It was 7:14 AM when the call came in. A teenaged boy had stolen from his mother. This was the fifth theft by a teenager in the past month. I suspected Pop-Tarts were involved. Bill and I rolled on it.

don't buy fruit poptarts
fruit poptarts are shit
What the fuck kind of cops do this? The proper response to "He stole my pop-tarts, arrest him!" is "Pfft, fuck you lady."
