Orlando Nightclub Gunman Scouted Disney Springs at Walt Disney World as Potential Target
The gunman behind the Orlando nightclub shootings, the deadliest mass shooting in American history, recently scouted Walt Disney World as a potential target, a federal law enforcement source tells PEOPLE.
Omar Mateen and his wife, Noor Zahi Salman, visited Walt Disney World in April, the source says. Salman told federal authorities on Sunday that her husband had more recently been "scouting Downtown Disney and Pulse [nightclub] for attacks."
Disney has had a massive security increase since the last December, and I wouldn't be surprised if more security restrictions are put all over the Walt Disney World Resort area now because of this news.
Guys, I don't want to live in a world where everywhere I go, I need to be searched and checked like it's a dystopian novel...
Disney has always had pretty top-notch security. A lot of guards that are in the park themselves are undercover, so you never really even notice them there.
Here's hoping that they'll up their security measures without too much issue. I'm a frequent visitor of WDW, so I'd like to know that it's fairly safe!
I never thought this is how the world would be when I was growing up. And it didn't use to be. I know as a whole everything is objectively "better", but it's scary how the will of the few (people like this) affects everyone else so severely.

I dunno, you don't have to go very far back in time to find more cases of the will of a few affecting everyone even more severely.

Sure beats getting shot on a night out.
You never fuck with the Mouse I have learned.

i think people need to look up what dystopian means
because it certainly doesn't mean safer

Good thing his ex-wife that he repeatedly beat was brave enough to speak up after he had already committed the crimes she knew he wanted carry out.

are you blaming a victim of domestic abuse for not speaking up now
are you blaming a victim of domestic abuse for not speaking up now
I'm blaming someone who withheld information that could've prevented a terrorist attack. The fact that she was a victim of domestic violence and still defended him is baffling.

Not really baffling at all if you have any knowledge of domestic violence.
I'm blaming someone who withheld information that could've prevented a terrorist attack. The fact that she was a victim of domestic violence and still defended him is baffling.
so what you're saying is you have no previous knowledge of domestic abuse and it's effects on people. cool!
Nah that's bullshit. You have information that could have saved dozens of lives and you withheld it. There's no excuse for that.
Nah that's bullshit. You have information that could have saved dozens of lives and you withheld it. There's no excuse for that.
There is if you're in fear for your life, my guy.

Not everybody has the capacity to be a hero, not everyone has the capacity to speak out or to process the knowledge that you may save someone, but you also might die in the process. Not everyone has the strength or courage to do that.
You cannot blame her for not speaking out because she was afraid.
Nah that's bullshit. You have information that could have saved dozens of lives and you withheld it. There's no excuse for that.
You are literally saying that living in fear and being afraid that someone may come to fucking murder you "isn't an excuse".
Glad to know your bubble has clearly never been popped and that you've clearly never experienced/known someone who has experienced domestic abuse.

I'll take "an effect of psychological trauma" for $500.
Domestic abuse fucks with you in a shitload of ways. Even if you know your abuser is capable of something fucking abhorrent and is planning to do that thing, you're likely mentally in a place where even the thought of speaking out will terrify you as you fear the abuser not being caught and fucking you up as retribution.
And why take that risk when you can just deal with what you've been suffering now? It might get worse after all, and the bad is all you'll see.

She remarried and lives 1.8k miles away from him. She wasn't afraid of shit, she moved on. She could've easily picked up the phone and notified authorities but she didn't. There's no excuse for that.
The same shit happened in San Bernadino. They lived with others and there were bomb making materials all over the house. No one spoke up once and notified authorities.
Dunno how you can even try to justify and defend their inaction.

It's because they didn't actually know that factoid before they started berating you.

the parks have top notch security but downtown disney/disney springs has fairly lax security, which is why he was scouting it out.
i'd hope with this knowledge they'll figure out some way to better secure disney springs.
I don't think the ex-wife is the one that knew about the scouting, it's his "current" wife that knew. The woman that he was married to at the time of the attacks knew he was scouting and only told authorities on Sunday, which is pretty horrific.

Ah, my mistake.
This article contradicts what CNN had on TV about an hour ago. They said that he visited there, but there was no evidence either way that it was to scout out as a target.
It's only assumed that that is what he did, there isn't proof that it was a possible one, at least not just yet.

Yea, you are right. CNN was only reporting on the ex-wife, never knew he remarried til I read your post and googled it.
Okay... now I'm concerned, I will be going there on the 27th :X
