Death sentence carried out on ethnic Arab Hashem Shaabani, accused of being an "enemy of God" and a threat to security.
A human rights groups says more than 300 people have been executed since Rouhani came to power [EPA]

An Arab-Iranian poet and human rights activist, Hashem Shaabani, has been executed for being an "enemy of God" and threatening national security, according to local human rights groups. Shaabani and a man named Hadi Rashedi were hanged in unidentified prison on January 27, rights groupssaid. Shaabani, who spoke out against the treatment of ethnic Arabs in the province of Khuzestan, had been in prison since February or March 2011 after being arrested for being a Mohareb, or "enemy of God". Last July, the Islamic Revolutionary Tribunal found Shaabani and 13 other people guilty of "waging war on God" and spreading "corruption on earth". The 32-year-old was the founder of Dialogue Institute and was popular for his Arabic and Persian poems. In 2012, he appeared on Iran's state-owned Press TV, where human rights groups say he was forced to confess to "separatist terrorism". According to BBC Persian, officials from the Ministry of Information informed the condemned men's families that they had been hanged, and they would be subsequently informed on the location of the men's burial site. Shaabani was moved from the area to an unspecified prison before his death, it was reported. Iran executed 40 people over two weeks of that month, according to Amnesty International. According to the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre (IHRDC) more than 300 people have been executed since Hasan Rouhani became president in August.
http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2014/02/iranian-poet-executed-waging-war-god-201421043119959262.html
wow this is just terrible
you may silence his tongue but his words will live forever!
This is the theocracy that CIA and MI5 meddling in the 1950s paved the way for. This is what has happened because the US and the UK conducted a coup against a democratically elected secular leader and installed a dictator in their place, all because he wanted to protect Iran's oil. Sorry to sound like an asshole, but the blood spilled by this government is on their hands.
Sorry to sound like an asshole, but the blood spilled by this government is on their hands.
The blood spilled by the Iranian government after elections is spilled by the Iranian government alone. Meddling in the '50s doesn't exlude 60 years of human rights issues.
How backwards.
-snip- misread

Egypt tossed out Mubarak, we got the Muslim brotherhood. They're fighting now in Libya to take power there, though luckily because of good sentiments toward Western powers they're having a tougher time. The USA invaded Iraq illegally and murdered hundreds of thousands of civilians there, destroying its government and infrastructure. Now, even with them gone, the Islamists are taking over. Back in 1979, the Iranians finally kicked out the dictator the US and Britain had installed there, because he was a colossal asshole, and the Islamists, again, took power. Iran could've been a democracy. A good democracy. Instead, we have this. And we know who's responsible.

I said they get a pass? Are you feeling okay? You think I approve of this sort of bullshit? [editline]10th February 2014[/editline] Once again, I'm saying that none of this would've happened if the USA and Britain, two countries so quick to point out so-called enemies of freedom, hadn't destroyed Iran's democracy way back when.

Anyone else notice that this idiot is rating you dumb if your opinions differ [editline]10th February 2014[/editline]
Er... I said they get a pass? Are you feeling okay? what iran is facing today is the result of the 20 years of slaughter they had with iraq, they litterally are missing an entire generation of people so their population is 60% fundimentalists who are all over 50, 40% moderates who just want to have a nice time and are on average only about 20-22 years old the iran you see today is not the U.S.'s fault its their own damn fault for throwing human waves at sadam husain's machineguns and tanks [editline]10th February 2014[/editline] why are you rating this dumb explosions... i'm agreeing with you
the iran you see today is not the U.S.'s fault its their own damn fault for trying to wipe out sadam husain after they had beaten his forces back to iraq
Entirely not. Iran had every right to attempt to dismantle that shitlord's little dictatorship after what he did.
Sigh. Its a tragedy whenever someone even remotely rational is punished by that backwards nation. Will things ever improve?
Anyone else notice that this idiot is rating you dumb if your opinions differ
I've noticed the vast majority of this community does that.

Their "democratically elected secular leader" was an absolute dictator who took power in an uprising. 2. He was overthrown because he tried to go to war with Britain. 3. It was Britain that wanted Iran's oil, the US only got involved because Churchill told Eisenhower their leader was a communist. 4. None of that has much of any bearing on this anymore. Also, chances are that with the deteriorating conditions in pre-coup Iran, the country would've collapsed into revolution and radicalism anyway.
If they've got as much faith in Allah as they claim to, they wouldn't believe he could be hurt by mere words.

Looking at the overwhelming support the Islamic regime received during the revolution and the resulting constitutional plebiscite, it's pretty clear that Iran was headed in this direction regardless of Western intervention.
Man, Gods these days are so lame, needing us to kill the people fighting against them. Zeus would've just straight-up fried him. Possibly after duck-raping him. 2/10, Allah. Step up your game. [sp]Also Iran is terrible and this is absurd and all that painfully obvious preachy-to-the-choiry stuff that no one disagrees with anyway that you have to put in a post as a disclaimer not to sound like an asshole[/sp]
