Three has announced that it has abolished international roaming charges in seven countries.
The service is available to Three customers travelling to the Republic of Ireland, Australia, Italy, Austria, Hong Kong, Sweden and Denmark.
European authorities have been clamping down on roaming charges.
But Three is the first network to abolish them altogether, albeit in selected countries, where it has sister networks.
Three says customers on a pay monthly contract would be able to use their allowances of free minutes, texts and data with no extra charges for being abroad.
Feel At Home.
Wouldn’t it be brilliant if you could call London from Limerick, text Hull from Hong Kong or tweet Bristol from Brisbane? Well we’ve got some rather exciting news for those of you wanting to truly stay in touch on your holibobs :-) We’ve now launched Feel At Home in 7 countries around the world; Australia, Italy, Denmark, Austria, Sweden, Hong Kong and the Republic of Ireland.
Feel At Home does exactly what it says on the tin. Use your phone (or dongle!) as you do at home and your usage will just come out of your standard UK plan allowance. Just carry on as you were. It’s that easy. If you have 5000 texts in your package you can text 5000 times from Australia. If you really want to.
All of our customers will be able to take advantage of Feel At Home, whether you’re a PAYG customer, a contract customer, a Mobile Broadband customer or even a Business customer. And you won’t need to do anything to get it. You’ll just arrive in a Feel At Home country, wait for your phone to pick up any local network and away you go. You’ll be able to use your phone just as you did before and with no extra charges and no nasty surprises on your bill when you get home.
There’s nothing like carefree tweeting, calling and texting and that’s what we hope to have brought you with Feel At Home. So enjoy your holidays and don’t worry about your phone bill!
I hated my mobile network before, but shit, now i fucking despise them.
this is absolute genius.
Nice, but now they need to expand this to more mainstream european countries like Spain etc.
This is brilliant, especially as I have family in Australia. Hopefully Three work on their signal in the UK though. I always found it apalling.
I hope other Telco's follow Three with this
They are also getting ready to launch 4G at no extra cost, unlike other networks charging crazy prices for 4G plans. I'm probably going to switch once they roll out to a relevant area

The EU has already pushed though legislation to remove roaming charges across the EU by mid 2014
FUCK YES, I'm going BACK TO HONG KONG at long last.
Good, roaming charges fucking retarded for me in Northern Ireland, there's lots of places vaguely near the border where moving a mile puts another zero onto what they're charging you for a call.

Holy shit I didn't know of this
Makes me glad I've been on 3 for 4 years now :v: as well as a 4G device

Three are a pretty decent network, from the beginning they have been offering decent packages.
Also they use the word "interneting" in adverts, so thats cool.
(I wish I had a phone that supports 4G though :( )
I wish this would happen here, I live near the canadian border, and I sometimes work only a couple miles from it, and I can't use my phone when I get too close because it thinks i'm in Canada >:(

I live near Mexico, and I'll occasionally get automatic messages in Spanish.
That and constant Mexico ads on the radio.

even facepunch seems to think you are in canada
Three is such a good network, cheap unlimited data and now this! Wow.

To be fair I am in North Dakota, pretty much the same thing
This is great news. I've been with 3 the last 5 years because they had a similar deal between their Denmark and Sweden networks, and I travel to Sweden a lot. Hopefully other providers will follow.
I had nothing but problems with 3, they always overcharged, constantly took out direct debits 3 or 4 times higher than the actual bill, suspended my account due to none-payment after paying them and having to go through the bank to get my 'missing' money back. It's not worth the hassle trust me on this!
This is why I don't have UK based services any more, customer service and reliablility in the country are some of the worst in the world. I got a Polish network & bank account and I've not had any problems since!
It's like they discovered if they give customers what they want they will give them their money
