Television channels showed images of a stretch of rocky terrain rising above the sea level, with a crowd of bewildered people gathering on the shore to witness the rare phenomenon. The Pakistan Meteorological Department's director general, Arif Mahmood, said witnesses reported the island near the port of Gwadar following the quake. The temblor could have caused the earth under the sea to rise, but officials need to investigate further, he said. Gwadar Police Chief Pervez Umrani said the new land mass is about 9 m high and 100 m long and visible from the beach. More than 200 troops have been sent to the area to provide aid, including rescue and medical teams.
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/deadly-pakistan-earthquake-so-powerful-it-creates-a-new-island/13333/
What a shocker. Really though, that's both cool and really scary... I can't imagine building anything on the island itself, but it's cool to have an island form as a result of something commonly thought of as mainly 'destructive'.
Cool i wonder if it will be habitable, shame this couldn't happen in China or something where more land is needed ( except injured civilians part obviously )
The damage that the earthquake caused sounds bad but the fact it created an island is honestly pretty cool.
That must have been one powerful earthquake to create an entire island.
Wonder how long it'll last before the forces of nature causes it to sink?
Is there any video of this happening? I've tried looking but can't seem to find any. Can't imagine what it looks like to see a whole island appear out of the sea.
That is pretty darn awesome, I wonder if it will stay above the Sea and how it rose.

Anyways, the island is probably going to stay until a new tectonic plate movement starts and causes another earthquake, or it might grow bigger or just stay the way it is now. The island is created when two or more plates collide and the force of the collision forces the earth to bend upwards and thus sticking out of water. basically this

It's a long personal life story and I rather not talk about it.
Migrating birds are going to land there to rest, then one will say "Fuck flying north, I'm staying here, who's with me?"

You wouldn't pass the exams here.
It's a long personal life story and I rather not talk about it.
Confirmed for locked in a basement.
I wonder what they'll do with it.

what would happen if a boat was right above it when it rose
Cool i wonder if it will be habitable, shame this couldn't happen in China or something where more land is needed ( except injured civilians part obviously )
Actually, China is not short on land space. They have plenty. More than plenty. Their problem arises in the fact that very little (in comparison to the whole country) is developed or is able to be developed (much of the West portion is desert highland). Therefore an alarmingly large percentage of their population dwell in and around major city centers. (ie Guangzhou, Shanghai, Beijing, Shantou, etc.) Which we as Westerner's have come to know China for. But again, the rest of the country is largely sparse in population. The REAL question here, is whether or not The Cave of Wonders will appear! Jafar needs the lamp! :v:
I wonder if anyone has touched it yet.
what would happen if a boat was right above it when it rose
If we're not counting watercurrents and shit from the shaking and the earths mass pushing away water, your boat would be on the island, stranded. if we're counting that in, your boat would either sink from taking in too much water from waves that gets formed or get pushed away by them.
so um is this land automatically part of pakistan? is there a general rule for who gets sovereignty over landmasses created by natural events?
so um is this land automatically part of pakistan? is there a general rule for who gets sovereignty over landmasses created by natural events?
i imagine if it falls into their sea territory then it is automatically theirs

fuck you lifehole I am so invading your island
China has claimed original ownership.

Wish there was a video of this.
so um is this land automatically part of pakistan? is there a general rule for who gets sovereignty over landmasses created by natural events?
Doesn't it depend on whether or not it's in international waters? I know borders don't stop at the coast, they go out for a few miles.
so um is this land automatically part of pakistan? is there a general rule for who gets sovereignty over landmasses created by natural events?
If it's within Pakistan's EEZ then it's likely theirs for the taking.
