Types of Fire Spinning
Fire spinning (also known as fire dancing) is quite possibly the most awesome form of dancing. There are a shit-ton of different ways to spin fire, all of which are equally badass, the ones most commonly known about are these
Fire Staff

There are a three ways to spin a fire staff, you can do normal twirling, contact staff or a combination of the two.
Twirling
It's what it sounds like, it looks a lot like bo staff spinning, only more badass, because shits on FIRE.
Single Staff

Double Staff

Contact
Then there is contact staff spinning, most people do a combination of twirling and contact, contact is spinning the staff around your various bodyparts WITHOUT using your hands/fingers.

I couldn't find a good video for contact double staff, but it does exist.
Also some people get fucking crazy and use 3 or even 4 staffs.

Fire Poi

Then there is fire poi, fire poi is fire spinning using two wick balls attached to chains held in either hand, I don't know an incredible amount about it so here's a video for you.

There are also torch poi, which are poi that have a rigid metal bar with a small chain allowing rotation at the end instead of the normal chain.
Fire Hoop

It's like hula-hooping, but with fire. Also you have to move your body in ways only a woman should.
So here's a video of some guy doing it.

There are also a bunch of other lessser known ways of spinning/dancing, such as Meteor Hammers, Fire Knife/Sword, Fire Fans, Fire Juggling, Fire Fingers and some others I am probably forgetting about.
Learning to Spin Fire
The absolute BEST possible advice I can give you on this is get your materials, and practice a SHIT TON with them before you start lighting them on fire, I started spinning fire staff a few months ago, I picked it up fairly quickly because I had experience spinning rifles when I was in JROTC/The Military, but I still jumped ahead to fire too quickly and burnt the shit out of my neck the second time I ever spun.
In regards to actually learning the arts, the internet is your best freind, I learned all of my staff spinning from

If your looking for Poi spinning try
http://www.homeofpoi.com/
Also Here's a video of Meteor Hammers because they are FUCKING SWEET but VERY hard to learn.

Any of the other arts I'm not sure about, but do a goddamn Google search, you'll find something.
Fire Spinning Supplies
Depending on your preferred art you can build your own tool (easiest with poi and staff) or you can purchase a pre-built rig.
I purchase all my fire supplies from here: http://www.firemecca.com/
Brits may want to try here: http://www.firetoys.co.uk/
As far as fuel goes I use basic charcoal fluid, it's cheap and works pretty well, if you can get it the best and most spectacular burning fuel to use is pure paraffin (lamp oil), or shellac removal if you want to add chemicals to color the flames.
So are there any other fire spinners on facepunch?

Fuck, forgot to add supplies section. OP updated.
Is the meteor hammer just two fireballs attached by a rope?
Scary.
That looks so awesome, i remember we had a couple of those guys in our town some years ago.
It was beutiful.
Looks cool but I can't even spin a damn broomstick.
How are they not scared of getting severly burned?
How are they not scared of getting severly burned?
Because they have practised for years. They probably still have a hint of fear.
Looks cool but I can't even spin a damn broomstick.
It's easy to do once you understand how all the wrist movements work.
How are they not scared of getting severly burned?
Belive me, the first couple times I spun fire I was scared SHITLESS that I was gonna burn myself, and I did burn myself, I'm still scared that I'm gonna burn myself but it's so much goddamn fun I do it anyway.

Yes. Yes it is.
This looks pretty damn awesome. Maybe I'll try it out so I have something to do this summer
My estranged indian half-brother does this, but he's fat and bowlegged (and his gestation period was punctuated with a lot of funky drugs), so the result is more funny than cool.

Awwwwwwwww:smith:
Nice thread. I got a staff myself and have been training for around 1½ years, but I've had a break for quite a while now. I'm pretty average at it so far, I know 2 basic contact moves, but I'm pretty good at throws.
I had a friend I used to train with and we practised a small 2 man show to music, it was pretty much 3 parts, one where I did solo singlestaff, one where he did doublestaff and one where he threw one of his staff and we did it together. It was looking pretty nice but still needed a bit more polishing, but then he graduated and moved away. That's kinda why I stopped training, I would probably be a lot better now if he was still around.
Lately I've been starting to miss the sound and feeling of the fires swooshing around your head though, so I think I'm gonna start again.

It's not as dangerous as it looks tbh, I'd say riding a horse is at least 3 times more dangerous.
If you were proper clothes and practise without fire enough before you try new stuff it's pretty safe. If you just hit yourself with the staff it wont hurt more than it would with a normal stick, and the fire needs to be in contact with the clothes for a while before they ignite.
The scary part is not the fire, it's the risk of grabbing/hitting yourself with the hot metal of the staff. You can expect to burn you armhair (and eyebrows if your not careful) though.

This, so much, nothing I like more than the sound the fire makes as it flies by your face.
This sounds cool, I will look into doing it.
It's not incredibly difficult to learn, get yourself a bit of wooden dowel or some bamboo for staff, for poi get tubesocks and small bags if rice in them.
Whenever I see one of these fire dancing 'rituals' I have reason to believe they are summoning a fiery demonic serpent or a gate to the underworld.
I'm watching you...
Japs are way too good at everything.

Yeah, you need to train A LOT at learning the basic and mastering tricks before even thinking about lighting a staff up, but it's so worth it.
And NEVER light up alone, always bring someone to watch you in case something bad happens.
I see this thread has ignited new interest in some.
I have a fire stick and poi, used them both once or twice and never touched them again.
My dad used to do fire spinning and fire spitting when he was in uni to help cover for his fees, he dropped out of secondary school with no qualifications and decided to go to uni as a mature student after a while and got a 1st (1:1) degree.
He also had dreadlocks and loads of piercings back then :v:
Imagine combining pen spinning and fire spinning.
best party trick ever.
I do this.
I do this.
Hell yeah, what kind?

Actually just fire spinning is the best party trick ever, assuming you can go outside and do it.
Seriously, spin some fire and everyone will be all "Holy shit that guy is fucking awesome! Let me go grab him another beer." and girls will be all "OH EM GEE that was so hot!" (har har pun)

I was going to say that once I get into shape I'm going to try this but now I don't have to!
Time to go buy a fire stick

I haven't in awhile, I do poi, that is the fire on the strings, as well as the fire staff.
I never really have time to get my materials together to perform or anything anymore :(
screw growing up
You forgot fire whips

I have a friend who does poi, he's what made me decide to pick it up, except I went for the staff instead.

Don't wanna sound like a bore, but make sure you do it before you start drinking yourself! Alcohol and fire is not a good combination.
But otherwise I agree, people are usually easily impressed by it. When I was newer to this I just danced around in different directions without really doing any tricks and people still though it looked good.
