[release] OSCEOLA, Iowa - Texas Gov. Rick Perry said Tuesday his views on abortion had undergone a "transformation" after seeing a recent film that advocated against the procedure in any situation. The issue of Perry's abortion beliefs was raised by an area pastor who said Perry told him a month ago that he was in favor of abortion in cases of rape and incest but was otherwise opposed."About a week ago you signed the Personhood USA pledge which in it states that abortion and the innocent killing of life should always be prohibited," said Joshua Verwers, a pastor at Full Faith Christian CAPTION Getty Images Center in Chariton, Iowa."To me it seems kind of like a contradiction where you were a month ago," he said.Candidates who have signed the Personhood USA pledge promise to "advance state and federal laws and amendments that recognize the unalienable right to life of all human beings as persons at every stage of development.""You're seeing a transformation," Perry said.Perry said after seeing The Gift of Life - a movie produced by Citizens United and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee - his views on the issue changed but added he started mulling the issue before seeing the film."It was ... when the lady who was in (The Gift of Life) was looking me in the eye and said 'you really need to think this through,'" he said. "She said 'I am the product of a rape' and she said 'my life is worth (it).' It was a powerful moment." After the town hall ended, Verwers said Perry's answer was "perfect."Asked whether he thought it was simply a ploy to convince conservative voters to support him, Verwers said no."When he said that, I do believe it was a sincere answer and that he has converted his position," he said. "That answer was too perfect for any political pundit, any type of a campaign adviser going to be able to tell him."In a radio forum organized by Personhood USA, a 501(c)(4) organization that opposes abortion, Perry said the woman "pierced his heart.""All I can tell you was God was working on my heart," he said.[/release] http://content.usatoday.com/communities/onpolitics/post/2011/12/rick-perry-abortion-gift-of-life-/1
I'm surprised he was an advocate for abortion in the first place.
Wow he is a complete moron.
Transformers faggots in disguise
I can't help but feel there's a movie I should be making a reference to, now that Perry has become fully mentally retarded, as it were.
"I want to get elected and all the people with money are crazy bigots"
he's just looking for as much as attention as possible if he's honestly going to say that his stance on abortion has changed just because he watched a film it and announce on it public news edit: just tactics to get more voters to advocate him
Why bother? His campaign is already fucked.
Wow! After this sudden and inexplicable change in Perry's views, I will definitely be voting for him now!
So even when a female may die from the traumas of birth they will still say no. What assholes.

People against abortion are holding this country back.
He'll have to do a lot more than this to get more people on his side.
hows god got to do with this?
hows god got to do with this?
god supports crazy republicans
"Innocent killing of life"? If your definition of life is a lump of cells, then you're killing thousands just by existing.
"Innocent killing of life"? If your definition of life is a lump of cells, then you're killing thousands just by existing.
1 cell is a form of life. you moron.
The fact that this is a move to get more votes should show you how screwed up the political dialogue is in the United States.
"Innocent killing of life"? If your definition of life is a lump of cells, then you're killing thousands just by existing.
You could go into specifics with the science but you'd never win. They'd say that that lump of cells is special and was given a soul by god or some shit.
1 cell is a form of life. you moron.
Thanks.
Thanks.
No, really, that's the definition of life.
No, really, that's the definition of life.
Thats why I think we should start imprisoning and executing men across the country for masturbation. They're killing so many sperm that could go on to become fetuses then good Christian babies.
I am very pro-choice but abortion's always been so creepy to me. I get it if the pregnancy hasn't really come along very much but like if the baby has fingernails and eyes and stuff I'd just be too creeped out to go through with it; religious reasons or not. That being said, no one person's opinions should be subject to the law of hundreds of millions of people; especially not when the government system is a 'democracy'. Rick Perry can have as many transformations as he wishes, but his supposed epiphanies should not become law.
Thats why I think we should start imprisoning and executing men across the country for masturbation. They're killing so many sperm that could go on to become fetuses then good Christian babies.
Holy shit, that'd make millions psychopathic mass murderers!
No, really, that's the definition of life.
You're missing the point of what I was saying.
'Are abortions OK' is a really huge question that everybody pretends is super easy. At what point does the fetus become 'human' instead of an embryo? Why is it OK to kill livestock if it's not OK to carry out abortions, considering cows are of greater sentience than embryos? Is it because the embryo will mature into a human at some point? Is 'they're not as smart/conscious as humans' a good excuse to kill human embryos? Is that a good excuse to kill any living thing? It's all sort of confusing and I wish mankind had a wizard mentor or something we could go to for the big stuff like this. Just sort of pay Gandalf a visit every now and then for the hard questions. [editline]29th December 2011[/editline] Anyway, Rick Perry sucks!
holy shit guis i just saw this amazing movie produced by a powerful right-wing lobbying group! it's totally changed my views! That's pretty scarey when you think about it... I wonder what other positions could be swayed with nothing more than a biased documentary?
"I used to be pro life. Then I had a radical transformation! Now... I'm even more pro life!" Asshole.
No, really, that's the definition of life.
nature makes no distinction between "life" and "not-life". there's no magical "life-juice" that fetuses have that sperm and egg don't, that humans have and corpses don't a definition is just that - a definition. it doesn't change reality either way, only how we choose to splice it up into different sections for easier processing.
