I'm 23 years old and I play tennis and videogames. Half a year ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, uncurable sickness. It attacks nerves and they slowly start to turn off over the years.
I already had 3 problem, one with eye sight: I was blind on my right eye. Second with my leg: I was unable to walk, it just shut down, I couldn't move it. And third with my legs again: Crazy tingling sensation. Everything I touched, it didn't feel good. So try to imagine how I slept. Very hard.
But now I'm ok. These things are called something like "start-up" which means that it attacks your nerves at one point. Then you either get better or it stays that way. Luckily I got better. But it won't stay this way forever.
My future is not so bright. I am probably going to be in a wheelchair, but it's just a question when. Maybe tomorrow, next month or in 30 years.
I'm using medicine to slow it down but that doesn't mean I will stop it.
Now that you know about my current life, I'm here to tell you my "secret mission" that no one knows about.
I calculated that if you work 40 years with minimal payment, you get 500.000 €. (in our country)
When I got diagnosed, I said to myself that I have to get that money somehow for my family. My sister just got a newborn baby, but her husband just lost a job. My mother and father are in big debt since we moved to another city. I live with them but I have to work to have money for myself and give a cut to them so we can live here.
So I started to play lottery, try doing some sports bets, went into casinos. So far I didn't lose much money, but I know that if I keep doing this, it will eventually vanish. I was thinking to make a videogame and try to greenlight it on steam since that's a big cash making market right now. I was also thinking to create a website and try to get lots of people on it, resulting in getting donations or being paid by ads. I got many ideas, but all of them are hard to execute. Ofcourse I won't go into drugs and do illegal stuff.
But my biggest wish I ever had is to create a videogame, which people would like. I would put out updates and new features and people would talk about it. That is my biggest wish and even a goal from my early years. So that's probably one thing I'm going to try and do.
You probably think I'm greedy and stupid for trying to earn extra money on the internet. But you know why? Next year I could go blind on both eyes. Maybe I won't be able to move my arm or legs. Maybe I won't be able to talk or hear anything. Maybe I'm just going to be stuck to my bed and look into a ceiling for the rest of my life.
Now that I'm ok, I want to do what I said. Get enough money so my family can live happily for the rest of their lives.
Just like Walter White wanted.
Its great you want that but whats your plan? Dreams are the start but action is what makes them happen.
Start a kickstarter fund and post your story there.
Doubt you'll earn at least a couple grand to start......fucking potato salad.

For now try to play lottery. It's fairly cheap in our country and winning prize is 2 million €.
Other than that, I'll begin to work on a game or mostly on a "mod" since it was my wish to do from my early years. I also signed up for actual atp tennis tournaments, but I found out that you must have lots of money to actually compete in the tournaments. And ofcourse if you lose, you don't get enough prize money.
I also have some ideas for a website.
But everything is hard to execute. I'm also known for abandoning projects I start so that's why it will be an even bigger challenge.
I don't think kickstarter will work since it's about funding projects unless I ask for funding a game. But I'm in europe and I'm not sure if kickstarter supports europe region.
There's probably a bigger chance of you living perfectly fine to the age of 120 than you winning the lottery. It's not something anyone should base their life on
Don't Gamble with Money, it will just get you into debt.

it's still only 0.60 € a week to participate. That's 2.40 € a month.

Gambling in casinos were positive for me. I got out of them roughly 300 €. Record is 160€ in one night. I know how to play, I'm not stupid to win and then use that money to lose everything.
I agree with a few posts above, wouldn't hurt to try a kickstarter. Unless that's against the rules

The small amounts add up over time.

iirc it's kind of frowned upon.
OP, use your fear to motivate you into making the game that you want to make. I don't know what kind of game you thought about making, but everything starts somewhere.

Yes, but I'll also have a fear that the game will not be successful and it will die eventually. It's all about marketing. I have an original idea that I haven't seen yet.
But the easiest way is for people to donate me, but who is going to donate to a person that just wants the money?
I want people to donate me for my hard work. For making a game that they like. For something that they had a pleasure to see and play through. But now I'm a one man army, I've got some experience with photoshopping and programming, also website programming.
I think I can do it.

If I completed these challenges that I set myself years ago, I can do this also. Although this is harder, but I know I can.

If you are lucky you should enter the stock market, the odds are much better.

this is faulty use of statistics
just because you've won some now doesn't mean you're not going to loose more later.
The house always wins.

You really should make a Game out of Passion, not out of Desperation.
Think on things, there is probably a way.
OP, if you don't have much experience in game coding, write a book/visual novel on your situation. Your story sounds like a touching one, just base it off of something like "To The Moon" or something of such.
Best wishes.
Yo, OP.
If you wish to make a game, give Unity a go. It's not that hard to get into and it allows for some pretty creative stuff!
Now, I'm no programming guru but.. if you need some help with Unity and all, hit me up on steam or thru a PM, man. I'll do what I can to aid you, bud.
you can't just make a game and have it be successful.
You dream of making a video game you say?
Maybe, just maybe you're the one fabled person who will create the legendary game Fuck Shit Up. But if that's not the case, then there's always kickstarter if you're serious about it. Wish you luck.
damn man.
I remember when you posted about your MS a couple days (or couple weeks) after you got it.
I wish you the best of luck

Get this book, learn programming C#, learn unity. Make an emotional/SJW-type game, rake in millions
Sad to hear about your diagnosis. My father was diagnosed and lost most of the feeling in his legs and right arm, but he still manages to keep smiling and have fun. He's also a pretty big gamer, despite having a dodgy arm he plays FPS's really well through practice. He's currently on STALKER.
But yeah, I don't know how it feels to have MS, but I know how to live with it. Believe it or not, my father is actually a lot better than he was in the past due to advances in MS treatment. Some new drugs came out and he hasn't relapsed in years.
My mom got diagnosed with MS a few months ago, but she seems to be braving it, hope you can do the same. Stay safe.
MS sucks, hopefully your meds do their job
Wow I didn't expect so positive feedback. So many replies and PMs trying to help me out and wishing me luck. It just warms my heart.
I'm going to try and create a game I always wanted not out of depression, but out of passion.
[sp]Maybe I'll make a game about Multiple Sclerosis, a medication going through the nerves and fixing them by rebuilding mielin and saving the nerves :D [/sp]
prostitute yourself
i bet people love wheelchairs

that sounds like a 3DS game aimed for kids
make a game where you ARE multiple sclerosis and you have to do as much bodily harm as you possibly can

Sounds like an interactive game of Plague Inc. where you are the disease, I kinda like it
Well first, if you don't know much programming, you should get started at soon as possible. I would recommend starting with C++, it's the standard for the gaming industry now. There's no reason you couldn't start with modding the source engine, and if you make a good enough mod then you could get it up on Steam. You could also look into C#, it was recommended above for Unity, but you can also use XNA with it. Better to start now then wait around and get input. Hope you do well!
Start up a Kickstarter page, tell your story, explain the game concept. I'd donate.

Generally for a kickstarter you need more than just an idea, at least a team already set up (or if your on your own, some proof of capability like an early alpha)
