• Huge blow to Obama care as a court rejects subsidies.
Washington (CNN) - The battle over Obamacare took a dramatic turn Tuesday with a federal appeals court rejecting subsidies paid by the government to millions of new enrollees. In a 2-1 ruling, a three-judge panel found the federal money that helped people afford health insurance only could go to those who signed up through exchanges run by states. That's what the law specified, the ruling said, meaning those who signed up through the federal government aren't eligible for the subsidies that helped them afford coverage.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/22/politics/obamacare-subsidy-ruling/index.html?c=homepage-t [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] Honestly I don't know how to feel about this. We need a healthcare overhaul; but Obamacare doesn't really help it.
The only way the US will ever get socialised health care is if Canada invades us. Psst, do it.
Why do I feel that no matter what the decision made, the people depending on state-funded insurance shouldn't have to suffer? Personally, I really hate it when the bean counters' logic wins over what needs to be done. We all have a choice between doing what is right, and what is easy, and guess what choice the court of law took.
What, hold on - I thought federal level laws were the ultimate authority. Why deny coverage?
The only way the US will ever get socialised health care is if Canada invades us. Psst, do it.
I was there two weeks ago - They are p. nice in Toronto. I think they'd be fine dictators.
What, hold on - I thought federal level laws were the ultimate authority. Why deny coverage?
Because fuck the black guy I think? Otherwise I have no fucking clue.
Because fuck the black guy I think? Otherwise I have no fucking clue.
Giving medicine to poor people is communism
What, hold on - I thought federal level laws were the ultimate authority. Why deny coverage?
Federal level laws can be challenged by federal courts as part of checks and balances, which is what has happened here. This isn't over though; an appeals court has challenged it, and now a legal case is going to be opened into this instance. There's been two other cases over this subsidies issue that have made it to the federal court level, and they both ended in favor of Obamacare. So who knows what will happen here? We just have to wait and see.
What, hold on - I thought federal level laws were the ultimate authority. Why deny coverage?
The ruling was that the Federal Government should NOT be able to provide subsidies because in their opinion the wording of the law says that the States should be providing them. Its pretty much the Feds don't want to pay subsidies so they're passing them off to the States.

One way it can be read is that you are only eligible for a subsidy if you signed up through a state exchange. This would mean that anyone who signed up through the federal exchanges aren't eligible for a subsidy.
The only way the US will ever get socialised health care is if Canada invades us. Psst, do it.
For that we'd need more guns. hand them over
Giving medicine to poor people is communism
Wait I thought it was socialism... ...or was it fascism? Well regardless we can't let the Obamunists get away with it.
The only way the US will ever get socialised health care is if Canada invades us. Psst, do it.
only if we ask them nicely enough [editline]22nd July 2014[/editline] this is just stupid, we really will never fix healthcare as long as private companies are allowed to outspend people 1000-1, congress basically doesn't care about the people they represent, only the checks that they get and the people who sign said checks
I hate this fucking country.
I hate this fucking country.
I assume you sit at home and not vote as well.
Obamacare would have worked great if they enacted laws against free market companies telling them to cut the shit out and offer a plan that the everyday working Joe can afford, and get coverage for his needs. The way it was implemented was a terribly managed, rush, bill full of riders, and confusing policy. It'd almost be better if they scraped it and went back to the drawing board.
I hate this fucking country.
Yeah sitting and complaining on an Internet forum is gonna fix it.
Yeah well thanks to Obama care 150 employees of Union Hospital are going to lose there jobs. Possibly including my mom whose worked there for 25 years. Thanks Obama
Why do people give Obamacare so much crap? It's almost identical to Germany or Japan's systems.
Yeah well thanks to Obama care 150 employees of Union Hospital are going to lose there jobs. Possibly including my mom whose worked there for 25 years. Thanks Obama
Yep, not Union's Hospital's fault at all.
Yep, not Union's Hospital's fault at all.
No it's not. In my mom's department they use to get money back for every test they do which is around $1500 or more, with Obama care they only get $60 or less. So now they gotta lay off and or close the cardiovascular department. Its happening everywhere at hospitals
Why can't the US adopt a health care like the Netherlands does?

See, this is what 'independence and freedom' from the government gets you. 20000 pound surgery bills as an addition to having your body fucked over by a cardiovascular attack. Meanwhile incbritain, I dont need to actually tell doctors not to save me because I cant afford to live. Thats fucki g backwards. I work 10 hours a day, and im quite happy to pay the level of taxes I do if it means nobody is going to be in a similar situation. Good luck those of you trying to change it and challenge it, really hope you succeed and change it for the better. Its a national disgrace.

If the reagents/materials needed are being jacked up that much something is definitively up there. That's not necessarily Union Hospital's fault, and I feel you there. Some of the shit we have to get from Bruker in my lab is stupid expensive. They tried to sell us a replacement metal rod to tamp in samples with for $400. We ended up going to a hardware store and picking something up for pennies. I'm not sure why your board of directors would shut down their cardiology department in this sort of situation. Surely they have money in reserves or would consider a pay cut or freeze before gutting the department? Not sure where exactly Union is based out of, but my google fu keeps giving me hits for places in my state, and I can tell you from experience there are lots of other issues going on in Indiana . Hope things work out for you and your family though, and hope they don't have to gut the services they provide to people around your parts. Indy needs as much preventative care as possible at the moment.

Most of you may not know how many problems this is causing in the medical field. People cant afford to make appointments or pay their copays. Information is not being shared between hospitals/practices, and some people exploit the system while others suffer increased costs. On top of ths, doctors are too busy and actually get screwed by the system for doing surgeries. They say some surgeries are unnecessary but infact saved the patients life, but oh no under obamacare it was unnecessary and the doctor has his pay taken away from him or her. obamacare is a huge pain in the ass for people in the medical field.
