I've been waiting on edge since announcement of this. Thanks for sharing - I couldn't find links earlier!
The girl is terrible. Infected, run!
This has to be fake.
Seems like a pretty fucking horrible thing to do to someone. [editline]26th October 2012[/editline] The show has to be fake right?
If it's not fake, this is incredible. But it looks really staged I mean, you can't make someone [sp]fall asleep that quickly in a really stressful situation.[/sp]
Derren Brown is amazing, I forgot to watch this, also it's not fake, pretty sure he will do an interview explaining it at some point or at the end of the show [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] Oh wow, I wonder if they recorded him in his room at night, if you know what I'm talking about....
I've been a fan of Derren Brown for years now, and I'll assure you it's not fake. Take a look at some of his other experiments. [sp]Take a look at Derren Brown: Guilt Trip. Using various psychological techniques he manages to A) Find a suited candidate to mindfuck and B) Convince him that he committed a murder that he has no recollection of.[/sp]
test

Wouldn't this be illegal or something? I don't know in what way but like I siad it seems like a very damaging thing to put someone through.
Wouldn't this be illegal or something? In the video itself he makes it clear that the welfare of Steven is being closely monitored at all times. I don't want to sound like the world's number 1 fanboy, but some of the stuff Derren has done in the past is absolutely flabbergasting.
I read up on how they had a medical team watching at all times but still this seems really wrong.
But of course, there's nothing ethically correct about it. But that's the fun of experimenting! And in the beginning he also agreed to get involved in a Derren Brown experiment.
Wouldn't this be illegal or something? Amazing. Absolutely amazing.
If he can explain how he can just put someone to sleep like that in a stressful situation then I might find him a little more believable.

But it looks really staged I mean, you can't make someone [sp]fall asleep that quickly in a really stressful situation.[/sp]
That's what I was thinking, even someone as skilled as Derren Brown wouldn't be able to do that, he barely touched him, weird, hoping its not fake though
Really?... You guys believe that someone can just put his fingers on someones head and he'll pass out? What a load of bullshit.
No, what he does is throughout the course of the build up he has a series of triggers where things like a clock chiming on the hour will make him feel scared, Derren uses this strategy as a form of hypnosis. It's all about creating instability and using vulnerabilities to control somebody. As previously said, there'll be an explanation at the end of the next episode - I don't know EXACTLY how he did it in this experiment, but I know how he's done it in the past. Remain as skeptical as you want for now. This theory is based on the use of the Pavlovian Response technique, where a dog is trained to do something in return for a reward, or it hears a noise like a bell ringing and assumes an action in response, like drooling.
Shit I didn't know it was an episode thing, Nooooooooo it was getting amazing
Should've known Mark Gatiss was involved in this.
Shit I didn't know it was an episode thing, Nooooooooo it was getting amazing
Luckily, there's only 1 more!
This is very interesting. I'm a little skeptical but I look forward to Brown's explanation.
Bullshit! Loads of things wrong with this Pretty clear to tell its fake. His acting doesn't help, either For example, "taken out the fuse of the starter motor" yet the motor still somehow turns Or the part where he puts him to "sleep" and walks him to bed Would have been a cool idea, too bad it was fake [editline]27th October 2012[/editline] The guy does loads of things one simply would not do Like standing and staring at a dude behind glass and only really reacting when he hits on the screen and then lets out an unenthusiastic "infected, run." Or taking off the breathing apparatus that may well be keeping you alive, before taking a second to shout for help or look for an explanation
There is no way this isn't fake.
I love his tv shows, although they always scare me.

It's called hypnosis and it's very possible. It was his first time seeing the "infected" I'm sure he was very curious to what they were and what they looked like. Also this guy is going to have one hell of a story to tell to others
Until you've read his book, the non-believers can go fuck themselves. The guy is a genius, and it all boils down to relatively simple psychology. He doesn't hide any of it, he's actually pretty open about his techniques. The book is a great read, check it out.
I don't care if it was fake or not. Derren Brown is an illusionist. It would be silly to dismiss that someone isn't playing the part of being deceived, whether it would be the alleged victims in question or viewers at home. I'm divided between Derrens true intentions. This was captivating and what i experienced as the story progressed lead to be quite emotionally breathtaking. Definately going to be following this one.
Just like a computer, the brain can be programmed to do many things. I have actually been put into a sleep walk like in the video, except mine took half an hour to achieve. For an experienced person like Derren I doubt it's a hard thing to do, especially when you consider the conditioning for it that was lodged into Steven's head before he was even put to sleep. Think of it like this: if a computer can do it, a brain probably can too.
and I'll assure you it's not fake. Take a look at some of his other experiments.
are you serious? his stunts get more ridiculous every single time. this one seems like he didn't even bother to get decent actors.
