So, remember me? I was carving wood with a non-locking swiss army knife. http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=945926 Here's how it looked before hospital. Here's how it looks now. Went to hospital incase of infection. They wanted to open it, which they did. The lady in the smaller hospital I started in cleaned it and said I would need to go to a larger hospital and get it checked by an expert for damage to tendons and / or the joint capsule. So I got there. The lady checked it and said there was definite damage to the tendon and that I would need surgery followed by a 4-6 week recovery period, starting off with a full hand splint, and physiotherapy (at this point I was really upset because it meant the next 4-6 weeks would be no games, whittling, etc. plus I would have to do everything like a cripple). She said that without the surgery my finger would eventually curl up and I would be unable to extend it. Furthermore, without surgically cleaning it all, the joint capsule could very likely get infected, causing arthritic conditions in the joint or, if really bad, amputation. So I had no choice. I spent the night there, surgery was too fully booked for me that night. I waited until 14:30 the next day in hospital, I wasn't allowed food because of anaesthetic. By the time the surgery began I hadn't eaten for 30 hours and hadn't drank for 17 hours. When the surgery began, the anaesthisist gassed me, then pumped me full of anaesthetic. I woke up an hour later with the splint on my hand. That night I ate dinner which was nice, and my family visited. I couldn't leave that night, they said It would be the next morning. I ended up being able to leave at about 15:00. Here's the stages of my finger: All drawn with my left hand, I'm pretty proud of it :P So anyway, of course they then put it in a splint so I don't bend my finger, rip the tendon apart and have a gaping wound the length of my finger exposed. I'm now home, on antibiotics, codine, and paracetemol using my left hand for typing and the mouse. This took ages to type but tbh, I have fuck all else I can do except watch DVD's and read. It's surprisingly hard to get on with one hand, especially when it's not your main. Here's the music which kept me going through the boredom and pain. So to reinforce my original message from my old thread, [release]BE VERY CAREFUL WITH NON-LOCKING / FOLDING BLADES - Never push on the point - Always make sure any blade you use is sharp to avoid it slipping - Be careful pulling a folding blade out of something, as you pull back it may snap closed - When possible, use a fixed or locking blade instead [/release] Summary: A swiss army knife closed on my hand, severing the main extensor tendon, I got tendon repair surgery and have lost the use of my right hand for the next 4-6 weeks. And now facepunch, I want to ask you. What kind of games and entertainment can I do with one hand? Its only been a day but I know this will start to kill me with boredom. (inb4 fap hurrhurr)
that looks painful as fuck you can play flash games (like keyboard only ones)
That got bad pretty fast, for what looked like such a minor injury.
Masturba................ I am so sorry.
Ouch. Learn to juggle one-handed.
Get an iPad or a Flesh light. both can be easily used with one hand. edit: Love your keyboard!
non-locking swiss army knife
I kinda laughed a little sorry.
Awesome.
I feel with you. Try onemorelevel.com That's all I can suggest
Surgical bro's I had the same thing with my little finger

That's about what happened to me when I was six. I was a bit more lucky though. Want me to take a picture of my scar later today?
That's about what happened to me when I was six. I was a bit more lucky though. Want me to take a picture of my scar later today?
Yeah that would be cool.
Best of luck, hope it improves alright.

Magnum ice-cream stick?
There is no need to thank me. I am a doctor, you see.
The tendons are all interconnected. My right thumb and all of my right hands fingers are very stiff.
Just wiggle the hand a little to the left or right when you want to click. If life throws switchblades at you, you have to be resourceful!
Dude, ouch.
Just wiggle the hand a little to the left or right when you want to click. If life throws switchblades at you, you have to be resourceful!
It hurts when I straighten my wrist. I'd rather have it heal properly. Perhaps in a week when they remove the exterior stitches and give me a different splint using my right hand may be possible, but until then I'm taking it easy.
didnt your mother ever tell you not to play with [del]matches[/del] knives?
God damnit OP, now I have to go find some ice cream :saddowns: I have the same healing abilities as you though, shit rocks. Though mine is more agressive and tries to "Heal" whatever's over the wound too. When I get a large wound and have to remove the wrap stuff after it's healed it fucking hurts D: like tearing flesh off. My doc haven't found a single pain killer that works for me, the weaker ones simply doesn't work, the harder ones work 1-3 times or so before becoming immune or something I guess, even tried vicodin and full body anesthetic, I feel "asleep" because of it, but I could still feel the pain, surgery without anesthetic sucks D: Anyway what were you carving?
I feel for you man , I broke my wrist 2 weeks back and its been in a cast since then. I also have been looking for stuff to do. In terms of games (if you can) Rail shooters: House of the dead 2&3, Virtua cop 1&2 Real time strategy: Warcraft 3 , Age of empires Turn based strategy: All civilisation games. RPG: Diablo 1&2 , Titans quest Most can be played with just the mouse. I have been playing the new final fantasy on xbox since it doesn't require 2 hands really.Anyway get well soon mate.
oh, sorry for my words in your last thread, I really did just think it was a small cut. Well, there are loads of old nintendo 64 games you can play with one hand with emulators, point and click games are one handed too. I am sorry it was your mouse hand and even as a left handed guy I still use my right hand for mouse.
Anyway what were you carving?
I was actually in the forest sampling the different woods there for carvability.
