"Our dream was basically to let users create levels on whatever platform they'd prefer and that they would be able to share it through Steam Workshop. So we came up with a proposal that would allow Wii U owners of Toki Tori 2+ to login to Steam, so that they could make use of that functionality. Kinda what Valve did with Portal on the PS3.
Nintendo and Valve reacted very positively and we had some calls and e-mails with both parties about this proposal. After doing a thorough technical check, we decided that in order to create a near seamless integration, we needed more functionality that was out of our control. Unfortunately things like this take time and cannot be implemented overnight. So for Toki Tori 2+, it was too late at that point. However we still are in contact with them, so should things change, we'll definitely revisit it again."
That would have been pretty cool.
I can see Valve and Nintendo working together.
Hell, Valve could have helped Nintendo fix their terrible account system.
That would've been awesome. Maybe someday the stars will align and it'll finally happen in some form.

Please! Please! Playing online is such a pain with Nintendo.
I love both nintendo and valve, it'd be neat to see some integration with steam and nintendo network I guess
in fact, some valve games on the wii u would be really awesome

It's not so much that their online service is terrible, it's just that they tie all digital purchases to the console than an actual account. But yeah, both need to be fixed.

If Valve helped Nintendo with online, that would be an even bigger middle finger to EA.
[sp]And that's why it also needs to happen[/sp]
You know what would be an awesome Nintendo-Valve cross game to do?
An adaptation of the Mario Portal flash game.

That'd be amazing.
Also, here's another reason why the Toki Tori 2+ devs are pretty amazing people.

The reason this didn't work out is because the Account System isn't there. (Well it technically is, but it's very very limited atm.) The accounts won't start to show up until the 3DS has Nintendo Network accounts as well. The reason it's like this is because the people who worked on the 3DS weren't the same people who worked on the Wii U, so right now they're most likely reworking everything on the 3DS so stuff like account linking is possible.

I'm just repeating myself now.

The fact that makes this more awesome is that the indie bowed out due to development time, not Nintendo and Valve.
For all we know, Valve and Nintendo might still be working on some sort of framework for the future.

It actually is pretty bad. For something as simple as Animal Crossing, it has trouble keeping up player positions.
That's two players, between say from New York to Pennsylvania or Michigan, and it can't sync their positions between clients, leading to players ending up flying to catch up.

And I remember playing Smash Bros. Brawl, and it was as if you set the speed to 0.5x in the settings, and your character performed the action about a full second after pressing the button, in some cases. Just terrible.

Hes meaning the WiiU. The online for the WiiU isnt that bad. I played Blops 2 on it just fine.
Also, ive never had problems with the online with animal crossing.

I'm talking about the Wii U, not the 3DS or the Wii. And as for Animal Crossing, I've never had an issue with online except for when my internet was being murdered by bad weather.

If that were done up in a way that didn't suck dick like the original Ricochet, that'd actually be pretty awesome.
I said it back before the WiiU came out, and I'll say it again, Steam on WiiU would be amazing and I would sell certain specific organs for it.
Nintendo could certainly learn a few things from Valve. Also SteamOS on WiiU would probably help sell a few systems.
