I didn't think it would fit here: http://www.facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=18 mainly because it's a suggestion for FP not GMod A section for new users to introduce themselves. lately I've been seeing new users getting bans/permabans just because they said "hello I'm new here" or "could someone explain this to me please?" I mean, GMT has one (http://www.gmtower.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=143) so why cant we do the same here?
People don't need to see new members.
Because it's annoying and repetitive.
Because all new members are homophobes and don't produce content. Not once has a '10'er made a good post. You magically become a good poster when you spend more than 2 years here. True story.
Because they're either in the wrong section, writing intro threads, or have horrible grammar. Usually all three. If the mods don't stay strict the entire forum would be overrun with illiterate ten-year-olds.
The hello is implied.
New members are literally unable to post correctly.
After almost 30,000 members, nobody cares when a new one joins.
New members don't know nothin
New members don't know nothin
I see what you did there
no
It seems that basically everybody that's against the idea of a new member forum is just stereotyping. I've seen plenty of good '10ers throughout all the really shitty ones, so some good posters do exist. And yes, I understand I'm a '10er, but I've lurked here far longer than just this year. I don't think that a new member forum is needed because it draws unneeded attention to new members that should be earning their respect and notice by other members by not being complete retards and such. Of course, if a forum like that was made and was right at the top of the forum list, it'd help siphon out at least some of the new members that don't even grasp the basic rules of the site. But one good idea could be to just try advising new members to lurk through the forums first instead of posting stupid shit. And also making it so members under a month can't make threads. That'd be nice.

Also a 10'er from august made a really informative thread in the Valve Games and Mods forum about a new type of phishing.
make a hidden forum for new members and lock every other forum until they've been a member for at least a month stop spam campaign 2010
I joined back in February, I've made a couple good posts. Also a 10'er from august made a really informative thread in the Valve Games and Mods forum about a new type of phishing.
Doesn't matter. You're not an official member until you've been banned.
Doesn't matter. You're not an official member until you've been banned.
too true
Doesn't matter. You're not an official member until you've been banned.
And atleast perma'd once, then unbanned in celebration of Garrys birthday. Oh yeah they stopped doing that :frown:
make a hidden forum for new members and lock every other forum until they've been a member for at least a month stop spam campaign 2010
So basically Refugee Camp x2?
make a hidden forum for new members and lock every other forum until they've been a member for at least a month stop spam campaign 2010
That is a great idea, but it might only affect the shitposting a small amount.
And atleast perma'd once, then unbanned in celebration of Garrys birthday. Oh yeah they stopped doing that :frown: So basically Refugee Camp x2?
no basically a camp where people can circlejerk over how new they are and doug can appeal to a new audience
no basically a camp where people can circlejerk over how new they are and doug can appeal to a new audience
And how would said users eventually gain access to the full forums?
no basically a camp where people can circlejerk over how new they are and doug can appeal to a new audience
I just had a vision of Doug on a horse yelling at new members to start a revolution and overthrow garry.
And how would said users eventually gain access to the full forums?
automatically after a month of registering?
nah sounds stupid
Fuck that, just put smartness back in.
automatically after a month of registering?
So a month after registering, and posting in their little new members section without being tards? Sounds like a nifty idea.
Fuck that, just put smartness back in.
But then I have to start spelling "dont" as "don't" and using proper grammar. :frown:
Doesn't matter. You're not an official member until you've been banned.
then i must be an awesome member with my ban record and goldmember.
I once went into the event log of all of my alts and counted the bans. It was 56+. The + is because ban logs didn't go back as far as 2006. Plus, I counted these up a few months ago so the total is probably well over 60 now.
bitches can't post introduction threads unless they are dec 2008ers and earlier ;) i reckon newbies should be able to read full forums, but not post until like a week/2 weeks after
If we made a new user section, that only they could be in, and only thing they can post in, How would anyone get ANY help? I didnt register until I needed something. Whats awesome was it was January 1st, 2010. Im as close to being a 09' as it can get with 10. Also, :frog:
