Release Date - July 29, 2016 [Japan Only]
シン・ゴジラ (“Shin Gojira”), or better known as Godzilla: Resurgence, is the 31st film in the Godzilla franchise, and the most recent film to come from the Japanese studio Toho Company Ltd. since the 2004 50th anniversary film Godzilla: Final Wars Godzilla: Resurgence is expected to be a return to the original mantra and theme of the 1954 Gojira, in which the titular monster is an allegory for atomic devastation embodied in a destructive, unstoppable, unimaginable creature that ravages the nation of Japan. Directed by Hideaki Anno of Neon Genesis Evangelion fame and co-directed by Shinji Higuchi, the pair plan to bring Godzilla “back to his roots” in effect. Godzilla’s design is radically different from earlier iterations. Using a mix of CGI and Tokusatsu (Japanese Suitmation), this new Godzilla is made to resemble victims of nuclear attacks with scarred skin, exposed flesh and a burnt complexion. The monster also resembles the original Shodaigoji suit used in 1954, seen mainly in the eyes and design of the dorsal spine. I don't know why everyone is freaking out about the new Godzilla, he looks like a meth head and tiny arms are dumb looking. Huge godzilla fan and this looks wierd
Jeez, they made fun of the American 2014 design and then come out with that?
Hopefully the human parts in this are better than in Godzilla 2014. Besides Bryan Cranston, it was fairly dull.
Hopefully the human parts in this are better than in Godzilla 2014. Besides Bryan Cranston, it was fairly dull.
This is a Toho movie so...its not really going to be the same
Hopefully the human parts in this are better than in Godzilla 2014. Besides Bryan Cranston, it was fairly dull.
IMO they should've switched around Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson around, letting the son die so the father would have lost his wife and son to the MUTO and more of a vendetta to them. Would've made the movie a little better. [sp]Plus it's Bryan fuckin Cranston, come on[/sp]
this is the edgy-zilla we needed since 1954 idgaf about monster fights i just want to see a big lizard kill a lot of people with nuclear commentary
This is a Toho movie so...its not really going to be the same
Trying to compare 2014 to any of the Toho films is a bit squishy since it's a completely new origin story and a totally different style (CG, not Tokusatsu). Really it's apples/oranges on that part
I don't know why everyone is freaking out about the new Godzilla, he looks like a meth head and tiny arms are dumb looking. Huge godzilla fan and this looks wierd
One of the reasons is that Hideaki Anno is directing it.
The more i look at the design, the more it grows on me. [sp]I hope its canon to the American film, which is why its "Shin-Gojira", so we can get Godzilla vs. Godzilla.[/sp]
Don't mind the look really, I can see why people aren't a huge fan of it, but it looks alright. Trailer isn't anything spectacular, but hopefully the movie itself will be good.
I really like the look of the new Godzilla and have since the first reveal [editline]16th April 2016[/editline] Also really cool music in the trailer, beautiful but also captures a feeling of terror/hopelessness
I kinda like the new design. If he had a posture and skin more like GMK's suit, it'd be a lot better. His arms do look unreasonably dinky and I don't think they fit in with the "t.rex+synapsid" vibe I've gotten from every Japanese suit. The head just meh, but before I saw the cinematography in the trailer, I thought it was fucking outstanding. It looks like Junji Ito found some clay and made a puppet in a manic fit. I thought they were going to actually take inspiration from the 1954 film, and have a visually darker theme and use lighting from below to give him that spooky, unnerving "not real but even worse" feeling you get with suits and puppets sometimes. Here's to hoping the story doesn't suck. There's really not much left for people to do with Godzilla, but it's the longest running movie franchise ever, so eventually something good has to happen in a sea of remakes.
I also don't get why his tail is so freaking huge compared to the rest of Goji. It's almost as wide as he is, and it's taller than him. Well, at least according to some of the angles we see in the trailer it looks like that.
I think someone on the Godzilla subreddit pointed out that a whale carcass is attached to the new Godzilla's tail.
I think someone on the Godzilla subreddit pointed out that a whale carcass is attached to the new Godzilla's tail.
It isn't just attached it's merged into his flesh, the skeleton itself looks abnormally shaped and there's plenty of bones in there, not just that one skeleton. adam's final form was godzilla all along
Jokes aside I would love to see EVA-01 fight Godzilla.
EVA-01 would win since Godzilla doesn't have an AT field. Like Godzilla is great and all but AT Fields are OP as FUCK.
EVA-01 would win since Godzilla doesn't have an AT field. Like Godzilla is great and all but AT Fields are OP as FUCK.
I mean, being from different universes for all we know Godzilla's atomic breath could blast right through an AT field. [editline]20th April 2016[/editline] Like shit in one iteration his atomic breath destroys a miniature black hole, he can survive full submersion in magma and take an asteroid to the face and remain unscathed. I think you're counting him out too quickly. Godzilla is pretty OP in his own rights. Anyway I'm not a huge fan of comparing characters from different fictional universes because unless the creators weigh in it's all just speculation and there's really no way of knowing how it would go down.
A lot of self quoting from Anno in the trailer. I have never seen any Godzilla movie except for 2014 movie that I quite liked.
A lot of self quoting from Anno in the trailer. I have never seen any Godzilla movie except for 2014 movie that I quite liked.
I really recommend watching the original 1954 film, especially since Resurgence is taking ques from it in particular.

"hey guys, wanna see a movie? starring ME???"
I'm just not digging the new "serial killer oni" design. Just a little off and formulaic to an aesthetic type I'm not really into to begin with. I'll still watch it, but I don't really have any expectations.
I'd like it if he fought someone; not personally a fan of the "disaster movie" style films.
I'm still gonna want to see it, but his look just doesn't sit right with me. Even though this one is still a man in a suit, the mix of CG with it makes him look fake, which is sad because the practical suits of the old films always made him seem real to me.

Bonus points if it's NOT black and white. If it's not a direct screen cap, as in it's been doctored or touched up, it doesn't count. I bet you never will.
