Riot police broke down fences and raided the largest illegal traveller site in Europe, prompting violent scenes. The travellers lost a final attempt on Monday to stave off the evictions, but protesters pledged they would fight on. Officers broke down fences and began taking protesters down from the 12 metre scaffolding by the gates. Electricity supplies were cut and protesters wearing masks said this had turned off crucial medical equipment belonging to elderly residents. One resident said she had been hit by a baton. The ambulance service confirmed a woman had been taken to hospital with a back injury. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, one for a nose bleed and one for chest pains but there was no evidence it had been a heart attack, an ambulance spokesman said. "We are aware a small number of people on the site have been treated for minor injuries and one woman has been taken to hospital for treatment to a minor back injury," she said. Speaking at a press conference, Supt Trevor Roe said: "The tactic was to take early control of the site. "Where we have intelligence there is likely to be violence we need to protect members of the public including bailiffs, police officers, travellers and protesters from injury. "We also needed to provide access for all emergency services should they need to enter and exit the site. He said two officers had deployed a Taser after being threatened with violence. Police said they had received reports that bottles, liquids and bricks had been stockpiled and this was a threat to the public, including bailiffs and council workers. Resident Kathleen McCarthy said: "The memory of Dale Farm will weigh heavily on Britain for generations - we are being dragged out of the only homes we have in this world. "Our entire community is being ripped apart by Basildon Council and the politicians in government." Conservative MP for Basildon John Baron said: "Police are using the minimum force required and when you are being pelted with bricks and rocks you are entitled to defend yourself." Labour MEP Richard Howitt said: "The smoke above Dale Farm is the most visible sign of the failure of Basildon Council to seek a mediated solution." No one likes gypsies, I never knew why.
No one likes gypsies, I never knew why.
Try living in Czech Republic for few years in particular areas. You would find out.
Gypsies are clever, got a load of them who set up camp on royal railway land and the council cannot be bothered to evict them because of the money it would cost in legal fees. They build camps out of brick and mortar so it's even more of a daunting process to remove them. They also appear to dress smarter now where I am, wearing suits or wearing high viability vests and drive around in black cars with labels like "Surrey security" or what have you to make them seem important or, except usually they are looking for stuff to nick. Had them come up the rifle range were I was working once and when I told them they were on army land they shit themselves and drove off. :v: [editline]19th October 2011[/editline]
No one likes gypsies, I never knew why.
Gypsies are fine usually, its pikeys you've got to watch out for. There is this family were I work who come to the camp and get scrap metals, nice enough people but I think a lot of people dislike them because they get away with paying tax. [editline]19th October 2011[/editline] Oh and they are infamous for thievery and doing shit jobs on your drive ways.
No one likes gypsies, I never knew why.
They're stereotyped as thieves and the like. I honestly didn't pay much attention to it due to the massive amount of media bias, but if the court system deemed it illegal, then I suppose it should go. The people throwing bricks and stones should be arrested and charged, though.
No one likes gypsies, I never knew why.
Racism
I remember reading articles about the dispute a while back, but where are the Travellers supposed to go again when they get evicted from Dale Farm?
So I guess this will fit. :v:
Racism
Most gypsies are white, well i have yet to see one that isn't. They don't have the best reputation around here, the police raided one of their campsites after a huge stealing spree and they found around 15 chainsaws which had gone missing from my college a few years ago along with catalystic converters and whatever else they can lay their hands on
this image is kinda depressing
Gypsies have always been sneaky and messy in my opinion. I don't believe anything they say.
Electricity supplies were cut and protesters wearing masks said this had turned off crucial medical equipment belonging to elderly residents.
Usually someone wouldn't lie about that but I really don't know with gypsies. Most rail thefts - Gypsies Dodgy/Cowboy builders - Gypsies These people have no fixed abode and no job yet they manage to afford Ford Transits. Anyone else would have been evicted as soon as the council wanted it. It's the fact that they are gypsies that has lengthened this on for so long. They have an alternative - Get a job and start paying taxes.
Gypsies have always been sneaky and messy. I don't believe anything they say. Usually someone wouldn't lie about that but I really don't know with gypsies. Only took the council 10 years.
British facepunchers have always been racist. [sp]Yes, I'm aware I'm British[/sp]
I find it amusing that they claim they don't have a home to live in after they've been evicted ignoring that they have caravans and shit.
Being someone from traveller descent, I actually agree with the government that they should go. If it's illegal, it's illegal and should have moved while they had the chance, they are gypsies after all. My ancestors would have, no problem :v:
Gypsies have always been sneaky and messy. I don't believe anything they say.
British facepunchers have always been racist.
Since when was "Gypsie" a race.
Seeing as they derive from the Romani people, I'd say that it qualifies as a race.
Checked Wikipedia before you posted?
Gypsy (sometimes spelled gipsy) may refer to any of the following nomadic peoples: the Romani people, an ethnic group popularly referred to as gypsies
I'm talking about gypsy -
the Irish Travellers (or Pavee), an ethnic group of Irish origin mostly found in Ireland, Great Britain, and the United States
Which then would class them as Irish. But the act of traveling is more of a lifestyle IMO.
Dale farm has both Romani and Travellers. Checked wikipedia yet? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dale_Farm
Then does that make the people trying to remove them racist towards both Irish and Romani people? or just Irish and Romani Gypsies?
No, they are legally removing them. You said:
Gypsies have always been sneaky and messy in my opinion. I don't believe anything they say.
And seeing as it's the Romani's way of life, as nearly all of them are referred to as gypsies, yep, you are being racist towards them, even though they are illegally on land and do need to be removed.
Must be the way I was raised but I've always been told. 1. Gypsies don't pay any form of taxes. 2. They mess up wherever they have been (personally witnessed them leaving a dead dog on a village green where they had settled) 3. they steal to make ends meet for petrol, food etc. and because they have no income from a job they have to trick people out of money by cowboy building or ripping people off with trades such as crazy paving.
Years and years ago they set out camp outside the Primary school I went too for about 6 months. Seriously, 6 months we had to go to school with a hundred caravans parked in a field next to us with all these strange people walking about.
isn't half of the land built on owned by gypsies, so technically only half of them should be evicted..?
I don't know why, but i fucking hate gypsys. (User was banned for this post ("Probably because you're racist" - Starpluck))
isn't half of the land built on owned by gypsies, so technically only half of them should be evicted..?
I think that none of it has planning permission, so all houses have to be torn down anyway. Not sure about the actual land owners.
> Have caravans they can move somewhere else > Get told to move somewhere else > Set caravans on fire
Gypsy catcher. Go on police deal out some punishment
cowboy building or ripping people off with trades such as crazy paving.
I think I get the jist of those terms but can I get examples? I assume they're both shoddy forms of construction and paving services but do you have some stories so I can get an idea? Anyone else for that matter. I'm from the US so I can't really sympathize as much, but I disagree with the entire lifestyle of Gypsy's it seems like they're a bunch of thieving, freeloading moochers.
isn't half of the land built on owned by gypsies, so technically only half of them should be evicted..?
Half of the land used to be a scrapyard that they gypsies bought a couple of years ago. The only problem is that the scrapyard was on the green belt or some shit like that so you're not aloud to build on it. [editline]19th October 2011[/editline]
> Have caravans they can move somewhere else > Get told to move somewhere else > Set caravans on fire
It's illegal for them to live in the caravan if it's not on a site.
this image is kinda depressing
They illegally set up camp on someone else's land, if I went to my local park and built myself a house the council would knock it down, it's no different. If I refused to leave and was being violent, they would send in the police, as they did here.
