The three women pulled of their stunt on St. Peter’s Square, the enormous plaza located right in front of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City.
Two of them had “Keep it Inside” scrawled across their backs, an apparent reference to their anger that the Pope’s activities extend beyond the tiny papal enclave in Rome.
The trio, decked out in nothing but black ankle boots, leather miniskirts, and flower garlands in their hair, dropped to all fours and began simulating a lewd act with the crucifixes.
Police immediately swarmed on the women as bemused tourists snapped photographs. Covering the women’s bared breasts with coats, the cops dragged them off, with one of the women crying: “The pope is not a politician, god is not a magician.”
Awful source but the video is there.
Because that gets your message a-cross I guess?
No but seriously folks, how in the hell is this supposed to help anything
crazy folk
Meh, I think it's childish but I've already seen a lot of positive discussion come out of this. Good on them.
Hey let's work for the betterment of women by sticking things up girls asses.
Wait...
This source is indeed awful
This is what should happen to these wretches. They should be punished just as Jehu killed Jezebel when he had some eunuchs “threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot.” (2 Kings 32) And Jehu said:
Go now, see to this accursed woman, and bury her, for she was a king’s daughter. (2 Kings 9:34)
Are you sure there isn't another source less batshit crazy?
so wait did they actually stick crucifixes in their asses or only simulate it because with only a leather miniskirt i don't see how you can easily fake that

They didn't actually put it up their ass.

I'm sure there are better sources but this one is entertaining to me.
Not gonna lie, that's pretty funny.
Hope the girls had a good time.
"Oh yes, oh God, oh Jesus!"
jesus should have done this

i don't see any positive discussion comming out of this at all, its childish to the n'th degree
the last thing women need to convince the church that they're able to take up the priest mantle with the responsibility that comes with it, is a bunch of crazy women shoving crosses up their asses
This is how you establish credibility for your cause
What, fucking Christ?
I was shocked at first until I re-read that Femen was behind this. Them doing insane crap in a public area doesn't surprise me.

Well you're talking about it
Why were they shouting the pope is not a politician? He technically is, seeing as he is the leader of Vatican City, but he has no international power or political power outside of the Vatican
Why were they shouting the pope is not a politician? He technically is, seeing as he is the leader of Vatican City, but he has no international power or political power outside of the Vatican
maybe they have a problem with that?
maybe they have a problem with that?
It's retarded though, he isn't a politician he's a clergyman end of story.

It's probably related to the fact that the church can influence politics and governments around the world, in the ideal case the church should remain neutral and not participate in political topics.
This reminds me of that one guy who tried to bring attention to the corruption in the Russian Duma by going to the Red Square and nailing his ballsack to the ground. A valiant effort, if not for the fact that the people were more likely than not concentrating pretty damn hard on the fact that you just nailed your ballsack to the ground. 3 claps and a muffled cheer!
Same here, really. The world is probably seeing a bunch of chicks with crosses up their asses, not the intended message. There's a line to shock&awe tactics, and some people just don't know when they've crossed it.
Where is your God now-
Actually, forget I asked that.

its purpose is less "let's change the vatican's mind" and more "let's piss off some old people", which is a dead horse that's been beaten too many times to be anything but a novelty to giggle at. i can't testify as to whether or not any of their tactics have facilitated change.
femen is like the marilyn manson of feminism

One of them took a chainsaw to a big wooden cross somewhere in Russia couple years ago. They're certainly good at just pissing people off without making anyone think of the cause.

More like "Famine". They do stuff exactly like this all the time

Then they'll just complain the pope isn't doing enough about gay rights or something like that.
