Let me begin by telling you the story.
This morning, I was out in my backyard with my dad. My dad sees a squirrel and decides to go near it. As he de did, the squirrel climbed up onto our roof. We both looked at it. The squirrel decided to go up to the chimney. Next thing we know, the squirrel falls down the chimney.
We figured that he could just climb out. He never does though.
We go inside, and we hear squirrel/mouse sounds. We are hearing the sounds from the wall, right above the fireplace.
Apparently, the squirrel can't get out, and it's stuck on top of the vent, which is closed. So the poor squirrel is going to probably die in there.
I want to let him fall through to the fireplace and just let him out, but everyone in the house is scared that it would bite and give rabies. Not to mention spray black marks all over the new carpet we just got on our house. Besides, who's gonna catch it if it starts running around?
So what should I do? Do you guys have any idea besides let it out from the fireplace and into my house?
Here's an illustration, with some xray vision of where the squirrel is:

I feel so bad for the poor little critter :ohdear:
*insert ridiculous totally impossible action that will get a ton of disagrees here*
turn on the fireplace.

I read this quickly and my brain kind of thought it said "Facepunch, there is a squirrel stuck inside of my ass".
Light a fire
open the vent?
Dude fucking roasted squirrel! It's a redneck delicacy
drop firecrackers into the chimney
Smoke 'em out.
I'll shit down your chimney for $20
Net
Put a basket under the vent.
Open vent.
Cover basket, take outside.
MISSION COMPLETE

I don't think it can climb out though.
Make a box channel from the fireplace to the front door, lure it out.
Take the bottom out from the boxes and you have a tunnel that protects your carpet when you let the thing out
Dude, just let the squirrel out. Open all possible ways to the outside world and voila, problem solved.
Lower a basket down the chimney.
Why can't you open the vent?
Or lower a rod down the chimney for it to climb up.

I'd pay to do that.
use a pickaxe to cut into your chimney from outside, freeing the squirrel
OP, wtf
You're considering letting an animal die and rot inside your chimney flue just because you're afraid the squirrel will bite someone and give them rabies and/or track soot on your carpet?
1- If you get bit go to a doctor, rabies isn't a big deal if you get it seen to immediately
2- Get a bloody carpet shark or whatever
Or lower some rope down, simple enough.

That's why.
OP, I suggest you call animal control if you or your family deem rescuing the squirrel too risky.

Is it free to get animal control, or am I going to get billed a huge amount?
is the fire department free?

The last time I called animal control was to remove a nasty wasp's nest in a nearby tree, they didn't charge me anything since it's a public organization. Check if your city has one, if not try the fire department.
Place a large bag under it and open the vent. Close quickly and release into wild.
Solution: Open the vent.

Wait, fuck. Open a vent with a powerful air compressor under it. Squirrel shoots into sky.

be sure its a paper bag because then the squirrel can't get into your home
Buy a giant black bag and cover the opening of the fireplace, then open the vent.
