The United States wants to regularly rotate long-range heavy bombers through Australia, as concerns grow over China's military expansion in the Asia-Pacific region. Commander of US Pacific Air Forces, General Lori Robinson, has revealed high-level discussions are underway to have American B-1 bombers and aerial tankers temporarily stationed in the Northern Territory. "We're in the process of talking about rotational forces, bombers and tankers out of Australia (Tindal and Darwin) and it gives us the opportunity to train with Australia", she told reporters in Canberra. "It gives us the opportunity to strengthen the ties we already have with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and it gives the opportunity to train our pilots to understand the theatre and how important it is to strengthen our ties with our great allies, the RAAF."
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-03-08/long-range-bombers-could-rotate-through-nt-general-says/7231098 The B-1 Lancer is no-longer nuclear capable just as a heads up before people say that. The US and Russia signed a treaty in the 90s to limit nuclear capable intercontinental bombers so rather than scrap the B-1 they gutted the electrical systems required to drop nuclear weapons.
It's pretty much a role replacement for the F-111s that the ozzies had
I welcome this opportunity to be stationed in Australia and say hi to our Pacifc friends.
I welcome the US to station their military here any day.
I welcome this opportunity to be stationed in Australia and say hi to our Pacifc friends.
But you're from the UK? Not US?
the more allied military we have here the better, especially if they are bringing expensive equipment with them.
But you're from the UK? Not US?
It doesn't say he's from the UK, it says he's in the UK. Better yet, it can mean his proxy is in the UK.
As if they'd ever get used against China.
As if they'd ever get used against China.
It's a public power move to just about anybody in the south to north pacific. China gets told that we can look at the islands and have reason to back them up, whilst the Norks well the Norks already know what we have
As if they'd ever get used against China.
Who knows, those sneaky Japanese might try something too.
I welcome this opportunity to be stationed in Australia and say hi to our Pacifc friends.
I don't really care personally, I'd rather you be on our side than not. But you probably aren't going to get a warm welcome here outside of the bases. We are the Bogan, white trash epicenter of Australia, perpetually stuck 10 years in the past, (In Darwin and the rest of the NT, that is) and so many people hate Americans but wouldn't actually be able to explain why. It's that kind of place. I'm moving away later this year, and it couldn't come sooner. This place is a dump.
Australia is great, just get out of the white trash areas and you're pretty sweet
