The past sixteen months have been extremely challenging for Ma'Lik and his extended family. At sixteen years old, Ma'Lik and his family endured hardness beyond imagine for any adult yet alone child. He has persevered the hardness and made the most of yet another unfortunate set of circumstances in his life.
'unfortunate set of circumstances in his life' aka raping a drunk girl and distributing naked pictures of her
still no direct apology to the victim and trying to appeal the sex offender classification to avoid responsibility for his actions
what a joke lol
Madison has appealed the verdict, arguing that Richmond's brain wasn't "fully developed" enough to know that what he was doing was wrong, and therefore he should not have to register as a sex offender.
If she isn't saying yes, don't put your dick in her??
arguing that Richmond's brain wasn't "fully developed" enough to know that what he was doing was wrong
Bull. Fucking. Shit.
You're fucking 16, 'not fully developed' my ass.

Probably is underdeveloped if he thinks that is a good defense.
So when is this guy and his family going to stop with the "it's been so challenging feel sorry for us" crap?
At sixteen years old, Ma'Lik and his family endured hardness beyond imagine
Yeah well I'd like to see him try to imagine the hardness they put the girl through.
Go back to prison, scumbag.
Crocodile tears.
[Walter] Madison released the following statement on behalf of Richmond and his family on Sunday:
"Ma'Lik Richmond recently completed his designated time at the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Detention Facility. The past sixteen months have been extremely challenging for Ma'Lik and his extended family. At sixteen years old, Ma'Lik and his family endured hardness beyond imagination for any adult yet alone child. He has persevered the hardness and made the most of yet another unfortunate set of circumstances in his life. As with each other obstacle, Ma'Lik has met it squarely, lifted his chin, and set his shoulders; he is braced for the balance of his life. While away, Ma'Lik has reflected, learned, matured, and grown in many ways. He is a better, stronger person and looks forward to school, life, and spending time with family. At this point, Ma'Lik wants most to be a high school teenager. In conjunction with his release, Ma'Lik, his family, and guardians ask that the media respect their privacy in this matter, as we all need to heal and move on with our lives. We will have you know that Ma'Lik will be taking all the time necessary to focus on his academic and personal goals. We ask for your support and prayers as we move forward, Thank you."
Walter Madison: Massive Fuckwad Attorney at Law.
yeah, No.
Don't want to be registered as a sex offender?, shouldn't have raped someone.
16 years old is old enough to know rape is wrong.
Kid is a fucking pussy, raped some poor girl and now he can't deal with the consequences so he is going to cry and play the "I'm a victim" card.
Oh for fucks sake. I hope Steubenville's reputation goes down the shitter for trying to pull this shit, because the fact that they're still trying to get people to feel bad for them means that they clearly have not gotten the fucking message.
I'm still shocked at the fact that news outlets are treating this guy as if he did nothing wrong.
I wanna see the rape case.
Can someone link to the article about the rape it self? Because I cant find the age of the girl anywhere.
Can someone link to the article about the rape it self? Because I cant find the age of the girl anywhere.
Just look up the transcript of this guy's texts to his friends. He damn well knew what he was doing and the guy is sick.

But I still want the age of the girl.
But I still want the age of the girl.
Why does that make a difference?
16, she was 16

Poor guy.
You almost feel bad for him, until you remember that him and his buddies raped a girl, joked about it, and tried to cover it up with help from school employees.
That's the kind of kid who needs a second chance.

That's his job. You can't really take the moral high ground as a defense attorney.
Okay, honestly guys what good is it going to do to keep a 16 year old in prison? Like seriously?
That's his job. You can't really take the moral high ground as a defense attorney.
Not for someone like this. There are attorneys that refuse to take cases where the client is clearly in the wrong.
People deserve access to legal representation regardless of your opinion of them. To take that away from someone would be to butcher the justice system. I'm not supporting the arguments being made and hope they'll be rejected but I would be worried if the lawyer did anything other than represent his client's interests.
Your job as an attorney is to work in the best interest of your client, yes. But sometimes that means trying to reduce a punishment rather than avoid it.
What I mean is, he could have said "We ask for your forgiveness as he atones" rather than "We ask for your prayers as he overcomes this whole 'rape' obstacle in his life."
I will give him points for saying this, however:
While away, Ma'Lik has reflected, learned, matured, and grown in many ways.
Sadly, it wasn't the focus of his statement.
Not for someone like this. There are attorneys that refuse to take cases where the client is clearly in the wrong.
That isn't how the judicial system is supposed to work.
Everyone should be represented, regardless of personal opinion. Just because someone is clearly in the wrong doesn't mean he shouldn't have a defense attorney and just because a defense attorney is doing his job doesn't make him a bad person.

Fair enough
Okay, honestly guys what good is it going to do to keep a 16 year old in prison? Like seriously?
My beef isn't that they're keeping him in prison or not, my beef with this is that him, his family and everyone around him seems to think they are the victims of something here.
If he's actually learned something and is a different person now than he was a year ago, then good, don't keep him locked up anymore, but from the way they're all going about it (not even mentioning the girl or anything close to an apology) in their statement, it seems like they're more regretting it because he was caught and punished, instead of regretting it because they actually did something really horrific that is going to stay with that girl for her entire life.

He is trying to reduce it, sex offender classification is an all or nothing thing.
Okay, honestly guys what good is it going to do to keep a 16 year old in prison? Like seriously?
yeah this is how i think regarding alot of prison shit, especially with young offenders and especially in the US. keeping a 16yo in prison is only going to guarantee that 16yo is gonna become a lifetime criminal. but yeah at the same time i'm pretty disgusted by his & his families whitewashing of what he did
Are you kidding me!?! American justice system people.
