Only 1 team, as opposed to the norm of several teams working on different aspects, which leads us to believe that it's put on hold / not the primary project.
I read the original blog post in question. It didn't seem very trustworthy. Not to mention this isn't the first time you had news sources claim a false half-life 3 thing.
I sleep every night in peace knowing that HL3 is in development.
It's obvious as fuck honestly.

I wouldn't mind waiting a few years more for HL3 to be perfectly honest. Hopefully some technical advancements in the coming future will make the game as revolutionary as HL2 was back in 04.

DNF is insanely different, and basically the dumbest thing to point at when comparing really any game with it. You clearly have no idea WHY DNF is a failure.
btw, TF2 took 8 years to make. Doesn't mean its a shit game.
I'd rather 5-7 years for QUALITY WORK than a game a year and end up with CoD syndrome
I'm sure valve has the capabilities to mocap the bodies and keep the heads focused on the player, seems like a pretty obvious thing to do.

TF2 took 9 years between announcement (98) and release (07). Granted, that one had some major overhauls on a basic level, but who knows what Valve's gonna pull for a huge finale in a setting with telekinetic aliens and G-Man magic and Vortessence bringing people back from the brink.
Of course they've also meddling in a variety of different projects since Ep2 (Portal puzzling, DOTA, community contributions), so maybe they keep thinking about adding features and then streamline again to not lose gameplay focus and then add something again and look at the clock and see how the FPS genre has moved already and whoops that episodic business model didn't work so well and maybe they should finalize something now or transition everything to a new engine or...
Generally tho I think this is just a classic case of Valve Time. They aren't pressured by anything but expectations, and they know their fans know that.
