In a Thursday column for the Twin City Times, Macdonald said a bill will be submitted during Maine’s next legislative session “asking that a Web site be created containing the names, addresses, length of time on assistance and the benefits being collected by every individual on the dole.” He added: “After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.”

Publicly posting personal information, he said, could encourage people to go after those “gaming the system.” He added he doesn’t care whether some people who rightly receive benefits could be hurt, saying: “Some people are going to get harmed but if it’s for the good of everybody, that’s the way it is.”
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-nation/wp/2015/09/24/mayor-of-lewiston-maine-wants-to-publicize-whos-on-welfare-and-where-they-live/
That is completely fucked up. Like holy shit how does anyone actually think this is a good idea? And then they acknowledge one of the biggest of many, many glaring issues and still go "Yeah, who fucking cares." "If its for the good of everybody" Its not good for ANYBODY.
Publicly posting personal information, he said, could encourage people to go after those “gaming the system.”
"instead of having government officials help regulate, investigate, and punish for misuse of welfare benefits, we're gonna go ahead and publish a public list of people for the uncontrollable mob called 'the internet' to dole out its own vigilante justice, as those with psychopathic tendencies are so oft to do these days" what a fuckwit
Like, how did this guy even get elected? Did no one go "Hey, wait, this guy is an unhinged moron."
Like, how did this guy even get elected? Did no one go "Hey, wait, this guy is an unhinged moron."
Probably ran unopposed, like many American politicians.
Is this legal to do? Could this end up in the Supreme Court?
Publicly posting personal information, he said, could encourage people to go after those “gaming the system.”
We should publish the names and locations of wallstreet business men and CEOs.
I honestly don't think I've ever heard "publicize a list of people who" and thought it was a good idea.
We should publish the names and locations of wallstreet business men and CEOs.
But they aren't doing anything wrong!
Or we could publish the tax data of everyone paying under a certain % or deducting a certain amount above a threshold and see how real tax dogers game the system [editline]27th September 2015[/editline] I really hate how welfair and safety nets have become entitlements, just a simple renaming of something makes the connotation awful, yes you technically are entitled to unemployment if you are layed off, no you aren't gaming the system if you can't find work immediatly and collect money. It also pisses me off to no end how hypocritical the right is, I know people who are on welfair or have been on long term unemployment who bitch and moan about people being on these systems, and consistently vote for people promising to gut these systems. Social safety nets are essential to a functional society
Got a friend who lives in Lewiston and he can confirm that this guy's political career is a complete disaster. There's no way this bill will survive once it's being reviewed and voted on.

This man looks like the personification of an anal wart. Just gonna put that out there.

You know, I can't think of a single country whose citizens I haven't heard saying that their welfare system is too lenient. I wonder if it really is just a universal thing.
So is actively encouraging the murder of your own town's citizens grounds for losing your job as Mayor? Surely that's bad enough that you don't need to be voted out, you could just get kicked out, right?
Publicly posting personal information, he said, could encourage people to go after those “gaming the system.”
If it's anything like the UK then there's only something like 2% of people on benefits who are "gaming the system" all this would mean is people who are stuck or can't work get shit on.
Publicly posting personal information, he said, could encourage people to go after those “gaming the system.” He added he doesn’t care whether some people who rightly receive benefits could be hurt, saying: “Some people are going to get harmed but if it’s for the good of everybody, that’s the way it is.”
Seriously? Isn't this sort of thing grounds for impeachment?
Are we really going to go back to fucking witch hunts? Come on man
You know, I can't think of a single country whose citizens I haven't heard saying that their welfare system is too lenient. I wonder if it really is just a universal thing.
Welfare is lenient because its pretty much just getting money for doing nothing for different reasons. I mean once you get the money its not like theirs some law you follow and can only use it for certain things. Its just the nature of it. Some abuse that, some use it and end up being able to actually live a decent life and go somewhere with their life because of it.
Are we really going to go back to fucking witch hunts? Come on man
It's pretty ironic, too, given that he looks like a goddamn warlock. Like seriously, who the fuck says "sure, innocent people will get hurt, but it's for the best" and isn't some sort of movie villain?
The problem is, if you don't make it lenient, the ones who do need it will get pressured as all fuck, and it'll be much harder for them to get out of the situation that's put them on welfare in the first place
exactly. Theres not much anyone can do to fix welfare, it comes down to the choices the people on welfare make and how they use it.
But the people are informed how much money is spent on welfare in general, just not how much is spent on each individual along with their personal information online. Also, he said it would encourage people to "go after those playing the system" and do what exactly? Shoot them? Refuse them your services?

Took a brief dip into the comments section of this site.
I think only property owners should be able to vote, no renters, no young adults or old kinfolk living in relatives' homes, no people still paying a mortgage as they are not true property owners, raise voting age to 21, administer literacy tests to prove ability to read, give questionnaires to voters to see if they know the issues, maybe require voters be practicing certain designated religions. Then, by gum, we'd get the right kind of voters.
hmm
He added: “After all, the public has a right to know how its money is being spent.”
Well then, to be fair, he and his fellow elected officials should make all receipts of their purchases publicly available as well.
Took a brief dip into the comments section of this site. hmm
That comment has to be a joke right? That's literally sending us back to the fucking 1700s when only white male property owners over the age of 21 could vote.
