To be honest, after the reveal of their payment system, it sort of killed all the hype for me.

What's so bad about a monthly subscription? Would you prefer it to be free 2 play?
I don't mind subs, really. But I don't like how they make me feel required to play the game at all times to get my money out of it.

I'd rather pay for my game once kthx. I'd be okay with them selling cosmetics and stuff like GW2 does it I think. I rarely stick to 1 game very long, so having to pay for 1 month, just so I can play for a few days is waste of dosh imo.

to be fair if you're gonna play it for a few days, mmos aren't really for you anyhow.

Well, then this game just isn't for you, as it isn't meant to be played just a few days and then never to be touched again. If you want that, you should look into offline RPGs.

Putting aside the payment model discussion amongst consumers, the problem with wildstar adopting it is two fold. It is simaltaenously competing directly with established MMO's like EVE and WoW so it has to generate the same amount of content to keep people paying and they have to make sure the content is high enough quality to coax over the GW2 players and the legions of people who are already enjoying their free game of choice (Tera, Rift, SWTOR etc).
What's the hype behind wildstar anyway? Doesn't look all that impressive to me from what I've seen.

Well, the fighting system is pretty cool, and adds a lot of dynamics to the game. You have to constantly keep moving during a fight, or else you'll get hit a lot.

Not only that but having to aim abilities is cool. And having effects like blind actually blur your vision, or confusion mess up your control scheme.
And the paths system is a pretty smart idea.
I played the stress test of wildstar, all my hype is gone from that. I didn't even want to play the last remaining days I could have. I really hope they changed it from then to release. From what I've played it's not worth a monthly subscription, it's just like all the other mmo's out there. I would just wait till the game goes to f2p.

So like every MMO that has come out in the past few years? We aren't living in the Everquest-SWG era anymore.

This is cool though.

I did. It's nothing incredible. WoW has had this stuff for years.

The main difference is that nearly all player powers utilize them. WoW's use of telegraphs, AFAICR, was generally limited to bosses. Yes, WoW had a telegraph system, but Wildstar is built around the telegraph system.
Instead of being in a fight where you just need to stay out of telegraphs, you also need to get your target in your telegraphs. So while WoW has player powers that pop down a stationary telegraph that damages people in it, Wildstar has powers that would otherwise home in on your target act like projectiles that you need to aim.
I'd say it does quite a bit to make combat unique and far more engaged. Even GW2's combat system, which also had free movement when casting and dodging, had abilities that would just home in on your selected target. Wildstar's has more aiming and skill involved. For instance, in most MMOs, if you shot a fireball, it'd fly towards your selected target, home in on them, and even pass through obstacles. In Wildstar you need to actively aim and fire the fireball at the appropriate time to hit. Throw in the player statuses like blind, disarm, confusion, etc. actually effecting the player like you'd expect (blind blurs the screen, disarm physically knocks your weapon away and you need to recover it, etc.) and its actually very new. And the addition of double jumps and sprinting alongside dodging makes maneuverability even more vital than games like GW2, which make the same claim.
I'd say it has a more interesting combat system than most MMOs that have come out. Saying its nothing new compared to older MMOs like WoW is frankly... wrong :v:
