Is it bad to have a lean towards game/movie soundtracks?

Well, lately I have been doing a little research on this.
Since the 90's, I've noticed that developers seem to be putting a lot of effort in soundtracks, but I rarely ever find someone who appreciates video game music. I mean, I like actual music, but I have a huuuuuuuge lean towards game/movie soundtracks, for an example, Medal Of Honor (Allied assault, mind you), which had a great soundtrack by Michael Giacchino, and even Goldeneye 64.
Other examples would be Zelda, Halo, Metal Gear. (Hell, Crysis 2's soundtrack is composed by Hans Zimmer!)
As for movies, I believe the first one which actually got me into it was Graeme Revell's Original Titan AE Score Soundtrack (Might have also been my first album downloaded in the old days).
I also love remakes of game soundtracks, like the orchestrated theme music of The legend of Zelda by the Boston Symphony orchestra.
This ends up bringing me face-to-face with the wall of the "musical education" that society seems to impose, by what you should and shouldn't carry in your MP3 Player.
I'm not the only one, am I right?
I have heaps of game songs on my computer. I particularly like the songs from Castle Crashers and Halo.
There's usually music similar to (and better than) the soundtracks you listen to, if you look for it. Soundtracks are an ok way to get into music, but it's not good to let them comprise the majority of the music you listen to because you're afraid to explore.
I like video game music myself a lot. Partly because some tracks, such as Ocarina of Time, have sentimental nostalgia value to me, and outside of that if a game's soundtrack is good I'll prefer it to actual music. I'm kind of a special case, though. I have this strange brain quirk where I can't understand lyrics in songs, which is why I've never been able to get into "normal" music. I can barely hold a conversation on the phone with someone. I'm not hearing impaired at all, it's purely a strange quirk.
So, yeah. You're not the only one. One of the more modern game soundtracks I liked a lot were the ones from Metro 2033.
you're not alone - I love a great soundtrack
my personal favorite being

I love movie soundtracks but prefer normal music. Also there are groups that make music that sounds like a soundtrack, with that emotion ish. You should listen to some post-rock bands.
I like more normal music. But I do listen to lots of songs from soundtracks and a few full soundtracks.
I've never been into video game or movie music. I can pass judgment on how good a music's movie is, but I really don't notice it because it is more apart of the medium to me rather than a separate piece on its own.
eh, if you're like some guy I know and only listen to the COD black ops OST because "I don't like lyrics", then no it's not ok to like a game ost.
I do listen to the RDR OST occasionally, and some anime OST's.
I have met and shook Jack Wall's hand before.
And I own a signed copy of the original Video Games Live CD. Nothing wrong with liking soundtracks, but by the same token there's no reason to NOT expand beyond that.
I like video game and movie soundtracks because they reflect what's going on. If they're good, that is. My favourites would be:
Dead Island.

Recoil (1998 video game my dad bought when I was 4). Not exactly written to fit a scene, but it fits the grungey feel of the game.

i don't understand how someone can say they like movie soundtracks when a movie soundtrack is generally just normal music but made/licensed for a movie. I'm not saying that movie soundtracks are bad I'm saying it's an arbitrary distinction to make
i think it's just that you only listen to music that you're exposed to through other mediums instead of actively searching for new stuff to listen to. there ain't anything wrong with it but you're really limiting yourself

that's not a brain-quirk that's just someone unfamiliar with music (i generally didn't understand anything when i started listening to music either, but that changed). it's pretty normal to not be able to understand some of the lyrics to a song (or all, depending on the artist), that shouldn't lessen your enjoyment of it

By movie soundtrack, I mean this kind of music:

Also, Hell, Dead Island's Trailer Music is a piece of art.
And I really do listen to normal music, Techno mostly, although I like to hear a bit of AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Metallica, Led Zeppelin every now and then. I'm often opening lastfm or searching youtube for new stuff.
Nothing wrong with game soundtracks.
I love me some Donkey Kong ost. Bioshock and Wizards & Warriors are pretty good, too.
only game soundtracks i have are Mass Effect, Dragonage 1, Mirrors edge, BF2142
listen to them here and there
Any game music done by Jeremy Soule is orgasmic.

And again, I have met Jack Wall, and I have his signature.
The Bully soundtrack is a good one to listen to, after playing the game I decided to plop the soundtrack on my iPod. It's good to listen when you're walking around the street, on the bus, etc.
Or beating up kids.
Though it's not my favorite, the Bully soundtrack is definately a great one.
I normally just listen to soundtracks for nostalgic value, but occasionally I'll find a song that I can enjoy anytime without having to 'be in the mood'.
I'm not much of a "game soundtrack" listener but movie soundtracks are awesome.
Especially classic blaxploitation ones. :smug:
Don't think new movies worry more about music, it has always been a big factor in movies since silent films.
Final Fantasy VII and FFVII: Crisis Core soundtracks are the only ones I like to listen to without actually playing the games.

Shadow of the Colossus.
Go. GO NOW.

I listen almost exclusively to movie soundtracks because they make me think. They have this great depth and emotion in them and they produce it all without speaking a word. I really have tried to listen to other types of music and I genuinely dislike most genres. The songs in the genres I've explored (rock, pop, electronic, trance, country, metal, etc.) aren't bad, but they're boring to me.
Of course, I'm studying to be a film composer so I'm more than a little biased. Still, if you like listening to soundtracks, then listen to soundtracks. I'm not going to listen to rock because it's not my style, just as someone who listens primarily to rock isn't going to listen to film music. Music taste is a personal thing and everyone's taste is going to be different.
There's nothing inherently wrong with it. Movie or game music is still music, it just happens to be created for a different entertainment medium. There is a reason why they release movie and game music to actual albums, because people like them.
I actually liked Twister's score (not the soundtrack, they are entirely separate) a whole lot. Unfortunately, the CD is actually quite hard to find at a decent price, due to a very limted pressing. The cheapest I've seen it go for is $45. And I've seen it go for $200 on ebay! But I found ways around it, although it would have been nice to have a lossless version. But I just can't afford it just for one CD. Its good, but its not $200 good.
What the fuck, no way bro
I love the Neon Genesis soundtrack, it's my favourite music really
If it makes you happy, fucking crank it
