STUTTGART, Germany — Special agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating the theft of guns and other military equipment from a base arms room in Stuttgart, military officials said.
“Several semi-automatic pistols, one small-caliber automatic rifle and a shotgun were among the items taken,” said Chris Grey, a CID spokesman.
The Army did not identify all the items stolen or the unit targeted, citing the active investigation. A possible breach of the base fence is also part of the ongoing probe.

The U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Stuttgart CID Office are offering a $10,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to the recovery of the gear or information that aids in the prosecution of those involved in the theft.
I smell a UCMJ coming for whoever was in charge of that arms room.
Holy crap, theft from an army base. You don't see that often.

...A court martial?
This can only end well
It's alright, I recently came back from training at Leavenworth. It's pretty cozy in the JRCF.

I doubt it, it's less trouble buying guns on the black market than it is to steal pistols from an army base.

What do you think they're going to do with them, put 'em in glass cases and mount 'em on the wall?

I have a hard time believing they were stolen as souvenirs. Also does Germany actually have a black market for guns? I feel like people talk about the black market without having any understanding of it..

You are gravely underestimating the amount of firearms which are openly being shipped around in the Eurozone. Most firearms currently in the black market are firearms left over from the Cold War's Operation Gladio and similar operations from the Ex-Warsaw Pact. The most current source of firearms in Europe is mostly the Balkans, which ships a great deal of "homemade" firearms that are so good in production quality, that some firearm rights activist are actively trying to purchase them over the deep web.
The biggest, "Holy shit" type thing at the moment is Ukraine, "Refugees" and other areas which are currently wartorn. Those areas have several factions which actively sell second-hand firearms into the black market in order to buy higher quality dakka. For example, last year had the highest amount of firearms being smuggled from Ukraine to Poland, which were actively being used to arm groups which intended on an insurrection against the governments in central Europe.

Huge. The black market for firearms is exploding in Europe, as several people who are directly effected by the recent refugee crisis, are attempting to purchase firearms en'masse to keep their families protected and safe. IIRC, Austria had an issue about six months ago in which pretty much every gun store in the country had sold out on shotguns, as women were terrified after the recent sparks of mass rapes.
...A court martial?
Sort of. It's a collection of legal and disciplinary actions that you can dispute by requesting trial by courts-martial. Not many people choose to dispute it.

Do you know how much the US military will freak the fuck out.
Firearms are valued over personnel on the 'important shit to keep track of' list. Heads will roll.

Can confirm. They'll shut down entire posts and keep people locked down for weeks if a single weapon goes missing.
What are the chances that its just a paranoid military member, I feel that'd be a lot better than someone with the intention of using them :s

Explain the broken security fence, though?

From the article:
“We are looking at all possibilities as the investigation continues, but at this point in the investigation it does not appear that an outside entity stole the firearms and equipment or breached the fence line, but we have not completely ruled it out,” Grey said.
Reminds me of a few years ago when someone broke into a french military base and took some grenades.
From the article:
I misread it, I read it backwards for some reason
I'm amazed nobody was in said room with the weapons, let alone how the fuck do you get into one those without being caught is pretty impressive. I'm positive this has to be an armorer or someone who has access to the key to get into those rooms.

Wasn't that a few months ago??
Usually people who steal from army bases steal a lot heavier shit than just rifles and pistols, like iirc in the 1980s nearly 2 cases of grenades, a bazooka, a case of RPG missiles, 2 LMGs, body armor, rifles and pistols, and thousands of ammunition were stolen from a national guard base (they were found however). So something tells me were not getting the full story.

And wasn't it c4 explosives they stole?

I dunno. I specifically remember it being at least a year ago, and a hand grenade along with a few other things was stolen.

There is a very very small black market, it's barely even worth it.
Some bike gangs sell pistols and shotguns under the hand and there is the darknet that brings guns into germany but that's it.
I if it's top notch military hardware, it has already left germany for sure.
