Serbian authorities have set 2020 as the deadline for the country's EU accession, but there may be challenges on the way including reform financing and the Kosovo issue, officials and experts said. "We do not hide the fact that our goal is for Serbia to become a full member of the EU in 2020, and we will accomplish that task," Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said in late October. Maja Poznatov, from the web portal EurActiv, which covers European affairs and integration, told SETimes the government has undertaken an ambitious plan. "The deadline is somewhat realistic. It took Croatia six to seven years to negotiate with the EU, too. However, Serbia is strained by the issue of Kosovo, a major political question that will appear during the talks," Poznatov said. The EU wants Belgrade and Pristina to continue negotiations on improving their relations. That is the top political condition for both countries on their paths to the EU. Over the course of talks with the EU, candidate countries negotiate 35 chapters that include areas in need of reform. It is expected that the first chapters opened in Serbia's accession process will be those pertaining to the judiciary and human rights. The start of negotiations between Serbia and the EU could happen as early as January if Belgrade meets all the terms, including dismantling Serbia's parallel institutions in northern Kosovo and establishing the Serbian municipalities association.
http://www.turkishweekly.net/news/158720/serbia-39-s-2020-eu-deadline-attainable-experts-say.html

Stay the fuck out of it Serbia! The last think the UK needs is more poor eastern/southeastern European immigrants.
As long they fulfil thorough and strict requirements that ensure they won't cause negative economical turbulence ala Greece, bring them in!
Stay the fuck out of it Serbia! The last think the UK needs is more poor eastern/southeastern European immigrants.
You know there isn't an immigrant problem in the UK right? That's just exaggerated bullshit made up by tabloids to get hits.
Not only is the level of immigration too high, when they're here, they breed like rabbits.
What problems does immigration cause?
Not only is the level of immigration too high, when they're here, they breed like rabbits.
It's absolutely true because I read it in the Daily Mail.
What problems does immigration cause?
Driving down wages. High unemployment. Housing shortages. Harder to get places in schools/colleges/universities. Increased crime. Difficulty communicating with them or understand them as they may not speak English properly or at all. Costs the taxpayer money, increased policing, paying benefits, schools (not only new schools but additional staff to translate for children who can't speak English).
Driving down wages. High unemployment.
Does population growth cause these? Even then, both are major fallacies.
Housing shortages. Harder to get places in schools/colleges/universities.
Build more.
Increased crime.
Show me the relevant crime statistics.
Difficulty communicating with them or understand them as they may not speak English properly or at all.
Second generation immigrants usually tend to be fluent.
Costs the taxpayer money, increased policing, paying benefits, schools (not only new schools but additional staff to translate for children who can't speak English).
You pay them more benefits yet somehow they are stealing the jobs? Immigration has never ever caused unemployment or wages to decline long term.

In related news, Serbia seeks to split up into 29 separate nations in 2021 for uncited reasons.
I don't know if this is a good idea. Serbia has a lot of internal conflicts causing all kinds of trouble among the population. A lot of different citizens have various origins from eastern europe which don't really get along all that well. Including them in the EU would cause a lot of uproar from a lot of western countries, they have quite a bad reputation.
But why would Serbia want to join kebab?
Man I am so glad you guys posted these videos.. kebab kebab right guys? [editline]25th November 2013[/editline] anybody else like memes?
This is great news!
Should had of posted the actual song instead. Glory to Serbia.
This is pretty good, I've always wanted to visit and if they join the EU I can just hop on a plane with me passport.
Now I can learn the marvellous way of kebab removal. Glory to Serbia.
Not a lot of people here want to join EU tho, and rarely who trusts politicians who rooted themselves so deep that nobody can get them out since the 90's. This is just generic mumbling which will probably get nothing done since you'd have to arrest half of the government (and even more) if you want to get rid of the corruption.
But why would Serbia want to join kebab?
it's actually a trap to facilitate the removal of kebab throughout europe
As if the EU will be around by 2020, it's will the Federal State of Greater Europe by then.
As if the EU will be around by 2020, it's will the Federal State of Greater Europe by then.
I'm all for federalization anyways.
But why would Serbia want to join kebab?
Bosnia hasn't joined the EU yet. There is still much time for removal.
I'm all for federalization anyways.
Poor Germans.

(I know he is permabanned but I just have to reply to this)
Driving down wages. High unemployment. Housing shortages. Harder to get places in schools/colleges/universities. Third one, cannot comment as I know nothing about that situation. Fourth, no idea about school places (there is an impending crisis due to the sudden birth rate increase in the last few years) but for college and university places people from inside the EU but outside the UK form their own category with separate quotas for them. So that is complete bollocks, they do not compete with UK born ("home") students for places. Reason 5: that's just a racist stereotype and you should feel bad. As for difficulty communicating, everyone I have met from Europe speaks enough English to at least get by. Expecting everyone to speak fluent English is dumb anyway, more people in this country should learn a second language. [editline]25th November 2013[/editline]
Poor Germans.
I think you mean "Rich Germans", who will be controlling all of Europe. This is one of the only problems I can see with a federal European union, certain countries would end up with way too much power.
