so i got this Idea a while back when me and my father where out fishing.
My dad has this small boat that we strap on top of the roof of the car. so i got to thinking why not make the boat the actual roof of the car?

you would basically just remove the roof of the car once you needed a boat. what do you think? would this be something that people would actually been interested in using?
Depends who you're aiming for really.
Plus if its the actual roof, if you are out in your boat people can get in your car, and so can animals/the weather
well some type of canvas roof under the boat part that you would just drag over the open part maybe
would be a solution?
Plus its unlikely you'll find an aftermarket way to implement this as you'd have to cut everyones roofs off to fit them. So an OEM option would be the solution.
Plus it would be extremely heavy with a roof like that
I think it would be just easier to keep using the boat
Well boats are much heavier than roofs, and when you went out in the boat you would leave your vehicle liable to rain damage and theft.
While I think it is a clever idea, it would be very hard to implement, making it not worthwhile.

Why would you be out in a boat when it's raining in the first place?
I think it would be a good idea to [I]make[/I] a light aluminum boat, that fits over top the existing roof (minus the cargo rails. or maybe the boat could mount to the rails.)
i would tow my boat on a trailer
