http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-11871641
Senior Chinese officials reportedly told a South Korean minister the Korean peninsula should be reunified under Seoul's control, according to leaked classified US diplomatic cables. They are said to have told an ex-South Korean minister China placed little value on the North as a buffer state. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei meanwhile allegedly said Pyongyang was behaving like a "spoiled child". The US says the Wikileaks disclosures are an attack on the world community. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said that every country had to be able to have honest, private dialogue with other countries about issues of common concern. But she said she was confident that partnerships the current US administration had worked hard to build, would withstand this challenge. The US was taking aggressive steps against those who "stole" the information, Mrs Clinton added. The whistle-blowing website, Wikileaks, and the newspapers which have published the cables say they have done so in the public interest.
This rebuffs a lot of arguments I and other have made about China. If China stops supporting North Korea, we may finally see a peaceful end to this situation. Without Chinese aid, the North would be unable to do anything, let alone feed their own people.
I like the idea of this, but what happens to Kim Jong Il?
I like the idea of this, but what happens to Kim Jong Il?
Provided that he is not blown to bits by a predator drone, or killed off by the CIA, or committed suicide in an underground bunker, or dead from a stroke. He will be tried for crimes against Humanity.
I like the idea of this, but what happens to Kim Jong Il?
He'll probably be sentenced with crimes against humanity.
This seems like something you wouldn't want the whole world to know when you've got a loon running North Korea.
finally
Well, I'm definitely glad China is willing to let go of North Korea. Despite the jokes, they could actually be dangerous
North Korea would become the new Iraq.
I actually smiled at this news.
This should've been leaked out earlier.
Finally.
WWIII averted.
If such a thing were to happen, it's one step closer to better global diplomacy.
This is good news, hopefully this actually happens.
Good job NK, you have dug yourself a hole you cannot climb out of.
China would definitely benefit from a super-capitalist nation that will soon border them. They can open further trade with a nation that doubles it's size and actually favors trade and not isolationism.
Korea won't see a reunification without a war, unfortunately, unless Kimmy dies and his son, Jong, decides to not listen to the brainwashing his father has no doubt been pumping into his head and hear the idea of democracy and peace, which is unfortunately unlikely. As well, if there IS another war for the reunification of Korea, it will not be reunified under Seoul, as I have no doubt the North will nuke the crap out of Seoul at the first opportunity, which will result it it's utter annihilation by pretty much the rest of the planet. The possibility of a united Korea is an unlikely one, but a great one to hope for.
This is all leaked information of course, and now that it's public, who knows what China will do. Maybe they'll reverse their position. In my eyes, they have nothing to gain, except the vire of the world for supporting a lunatic.
This is fucking great news. [editline]29th November 2010[/editline] Fuck off kim
Hear that sound? That's the sound of North Korea's friendship with China crumbling.
Once Kim Jong's 56k finishes downloading those leaked documents in 2 months from now, and he reads that, shit's going down

Further more, the South doesn't particularly WANT reunification, it would devastate their economy. I don't think that nukes would be used though, the radiation would leak right over the border into North Korea. They would only use them as a last ditch attempt I think. It may not devastate their economy... you saw how fast South Korea bloomed into what it is today, compared to North Korea in the same time span... so many investors, Billionaires, would just jump in on it that it wouldn't be much of a dent in the economy for the South, I don't think... Not only that you'll have a lot of countries pitching in
China would definitely benefit from a super-capitalist nation that will soon border them. They can open further trade with a nation that doubles it's size and actually favors trade and not isolationism.
It'll be years before North Korea could match South Korea's economic capabilities even if Seoul took over tomorrow. This is going to further isolate North Korea, and isolation leads to desperation. This is a dangerous road to war as it is gigantic step toward peace. [editline]30th November 2010[/editline] Also, by China taking this step, I move that the United States take FULL withdraw from this situation. Now that China is on board with this, there is absolutely no reason for the US to participate in any kind of unification process.

Especially when it's North Korea. And yes, I hope the US doesn't become too involved, with the exception of a war. Unless China will help in the war, that'd be interesting.
South Korea is no longer Worst korea?
Well fuck maybe they should have felt the same way FIFTY EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Basically, don't let China impose a ridiculously harsh treaty on Korea to allow reunification.
This is bullshit! Our great leader will pull us through!
