NIAGARA FALLS, Ontario (AP) — Daredevil Nik Wallenda has finished his attempt to become the first person to walk on a tightrope 1,800 feet across the mist-fogged brink of roaring Niagara Falls.
The seventh-generation member of the famed Flying Wallendas had long dreamed of pulling off the stunt, never before attempted. Other daredevils have wire-walked over the Niagara River but farther downstream and not since 1896.
An estimated crowd of 125,000 people on the Canadian side and 4,000 on the American side watched Wallenda's stunt Friday night.
ABC televised the walk and insisted Wallenda use a tether to keep him from falling in the river. Wallenda said he agreed because he wasn't willing to lose the chance and needed ABC's sponsorship to help offset some of the $1.3 million cost of the spectacle.
Now all he needs to do is do an untethered run and he'll be a true inspiration.

Was the view that much better from Canada? Or was it because he walked from the US to Canada? I didn't watch it and the article doesn't say so I wanted to see why it was so different in numbers.

Sounds like a job for kickstarter.

He didn't want to use it but wasn't allowed to do it without from what I hear
Didn't his dad plummet to his death?

Exactly. Just don't air it on TV (or simply air it on something like Justin.tv where people aren't as squeamish), and you won't have those restrictions put in place by the squeamish agency that is the FCC.

That would be his grandfather IIRC in Puerto Rico

Pretty sure his dad was in a production truck talking with him the entire time. I watched it live on ABC and I'm pretty sure that was his dad.

Pretty sure too. On the CTV National News last night, they showed his grandfather falling in PR.
Watched it live, are american newscasters usually that obnoxious?
Half of the time they were talking about "If he fell off" and "How nervous he is," when Nik looked and clearly said he wasn't. Hell, he didn't even want the safety harness.
Despite that, the performance was incredible.

The Canadian side of Niagra is for tourism. And since Nik was crossing from the American side to the Canadian side, I would rather watch him walking towards and not away.

There are still people who don't know how it's spelled?
What a world we live in.
His dad asked him while he was walking if it's all ok, he replies: "Yea but i just look like a jackass with this harness on".
Oh it was his grandpa, I stand corrected.

I was more referring to the act of, rather than spelling of.
